IX MR - Harness, Headunit Install, First-timer questions!

Hello all.

This is my first head-unit install attempt, and I am nervous as HELL.

I bought the ebay scosche harness, and my new Kenwood came with a harness.

I searched and found the old 2003 head-unit install, but not really relevant to my MR with the pocket removal, etc.

Am I to just connect the colors on my ebay harness to the colors on my kenwood harness? There are some extras, not sure what they do. Hopefully my IX has a working dimmer.

There are some extra colors and options. I understand purple to purple, grey to grey, green to green, white to white. What the heck do I do with the other options?
Edit: Red to red, yellow to yellow, orange to orange. I'm left with a blue, which I have P.Cont and A.Cont on the kenwood harness.

Edit: see below ...Also, anyone mount a bluetooth mic and have a good spot for it that is easy to run the cable for and hidden from plain view?

Thanks in advance,

--J

Nevermind. Found the bluetooth mic location thread. Removing that question.

Yes color to color for the most part with a few exceptions:
Orange on the Kenwood harness will go to Orange/white not Orange
Orange is the dimmer which changes voltage with the dimmer knob and orange/white is 12v when your lights are on, the kenwood cannot do variable voltage so... orange/white ftw.

Blue/white (amp turn on) on the kenwood goes to blue on the scosche harness, but this probably wont matter because if you have this harness it isn't an amplified system.

Just cap off the remaining wires so they dont short anything and you should be good.

Thanks very much!

I presume that because the black wire is longer than the rest it is a chassis ground? What's the best spot to ground this to?

Also, I just want to confirm that I follow the "relocation" instructions of pulling off the HVAC knobs, taking out the two screws under the outer knobs, then pulling the trim loose, etc. Correct? I have a IX MR with the Mitsu gauges up top, hvac middle, radio on the bottom.

Many thanks again.

I've never personally done an MR but I'm sure it's the same so yes, and the ground wire can go to any of the bare metal bracketry behind the dash.

Thanks. If anyone finds this during their search, this is the removal DIY I'll be using.

I'll let you know how it goes!

Clarification needed!!!

Aw crap! I am putting the harness together and have my red connectors on all the Kenwood side... But I double checked this to make sure I get the right orange wire.

Orange/White is recommended, but you say it is illumination.

Orange you say is dimmer and not to use it.

The problem is, on my harness:
Orange/White says DIMMER right on the wire, and
Orange says ILLUMINATION right on the wire.

My bad, lol, use whichever is labeled as illumination. Sorry.

I'm not understanding something...

Why am I pulling the HVAC control trim to replace my radio?

I have the setup below:

So how do I pull the radio out of that lower location?

there are two screws on the trim just right above the head unit. run your fingers on that edge and you'll find them.

I have the same setup and did a head unit install recently.

Thanks bro! I got to the point where I was going to ground my black wire, and realized I didn't crimp on an eyelet, and don't have one in my toolbox. I'll resume this tomorrow morning!
