Ok, first of all these are the items that I've selected, any comments on if this will be a good set up? Anything you'd swap out for something else?

I'm missing the dash kit for a 2 din unit, but I can't seem to find it anywhere online. Where have you bought yours? I need one for a 2009 Lancer ES.
I also have steering wheel controls on my car right now, is that something I can just transfer into the new unit, or do I need an adapter. If so what kind do I need?
I've also searched the forums for a comprehensive audio/speaker install but no luck
is there any posts that you know, with pictures of people doing what I'm about to do? Seems like there would be.
Thanks for the help!

Ok well first off this is in the evo 1-9 section...but I'll help the best I can with my relatively basic understanding of audio systems. Most of the installs I have done were with the help of either my father or my friend who is certified.
But anyway, just one thing I immediately noticed- the sub is not 800 watts, neither is the amp..it says 800 max, which means it can handle 800 watts as a peak for a maybe second, but it will run at something called RMS (Root Mean Squared: an approximate average for the power an amplifier can continuously create and a speaker receives), which seems to be 200 for the sub (4 ohm) and 200 for the amp (4 ohm), so it's going to be a relatively low power set up. It won't 'bump' if that's what you're looking for, it will most likely just fill in the lows based on what I know of the specs and nature of a 10" subwoofer in a small box.
Again, with the coaxial speakers, they say 350 max, but their RMS is 50, so they will run at about 50 watts or less all the time.
I know absolutely nothing about the steering wheel controls or any of that. You'll probably have better luck in the 09+ lancer section or maybe even the evo x sections.
Speaker installation is honestly very straight forward. If you're replacing say a door speaker, you're gonna have to get the panel off thats covering the speaker (probably the whole door panel), unhook the factory speaker, then fit yours in and wire it up. Hopefully you wont run into any fitment issues.
As for the sub/amp, again pretty straight forward. One power wire goes to the battery, one will be grounded (in my car I drilled into the a body panel I knew was grounded and used a self taping screw), and some wires will go to the back of the head unit (rca's, and a wire to turn the amp on when the head unit is on). Then you'll have to hide the wires through the seats, inside panels, etc. Might want to look at a tutorial for this one if it's your first time.
This is all very general info. Any one who's more experienced feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. I'm no expert but I have had some experience with this...
Good luck, hope I helped a little bit.

i ask because i know for a fact that if the battery cable runs too close to speakers wires, or visa versa, the speakers will whine when whenever the alternator is spinning!
so, for the EVO IX, do you have any recommendations which side to run power?
Just so you can better answer this question... I've successfully installed dozens of subs, speakers, amps.. ect. now that i am doing so on my evo ix, I was hoping you could tell which side to run the battery cable, and which side to run the rca cable and remote wire.

Now personally, I have both my speaker wires and my battery wire running through the drives side. They're separated about an inch apart inside the plastic panels running along the floor, and I don't notice any interference at all. Although every one's set up is different. So it can't hurt to run them on separate sides.
