Pioneer AVH-X7500BT Installed
Having installed gauges in the place of my radio, I have gone without music for about a year now. A few months ago I ordered the radio relocation kit, and I finally got around to installing it a few days ago along with my stock radio. Needless to say, I felt inclined to look around for a new single DIN radio with flip up screen just to figure out what options I had for this setup. Yesterday, I ended up going to All Pro Audio in San Jose and walking out with a AVH-X7500BT (just released and supposed to be iPhone 5 compatible)... And some goodies:
AVH-X7500BT Head Unit
BHA7001 Factory harness adapter
PAC TR-7 Switch (to bypass video interlock while driving)
CD-IV202AV iPhone 5 A/V cable
Apple Lighting to VGA adapter cable*
Apple Lighting to USB cable (already had extra)
So after the installation, I did a functional check. Radio, OK. Bluetooth calls and audio (i.e. music player or Pandora), OK. DVD, OK. USB/iPod, NOT OK. Probably the best feature I was looking forward to in this product wasn't functioning. Basically the Pioneer AV cable is the interface between the iPhone 5 and the head unit. But because of the proprietary Lightning mumbo jumbo, you are forced to use the Lightning to VGA and Lightning to USB. The CD-IV202AV offers a VGA connection and USB connection. After the Lightning to VGA is connected to the iPhone, it offers a VGA port and female Lightning port. So VGA goes to VGA, and the Lightning to USB goes from the USB to the female Lightning port. Pretty simple and straightforward, but it doesn't work. If I skip the VGA adapter and plug the Lightning to USB directly to the iPhone, it reads and I can control the iPod functions on the Pioneer touchscreen. However, this is only audio and no video.
After doing some research, it looks like there will be a new firmware soon which will probably enable this function. Hopefully that's the root cause. Anybody have any experience with this?
Well enough about that, I can worry about it in a few weeks when I get back from my business trip. If I hear anything from Pioneer about FW, I'll update the post.
Anyways, here's a few pics installed:
Testing out the Zoolander DVD:
With the Lightning to VGA connected properly :
With the Lightning to USB directly to the iPhone, but it recognizes it as another cable CD-IU201S (iPod control with sound only, mainly with 30 pin connector, but a Lightning to 30 pin connector can work also):

Bought the same receiver. FYI If you have the MR the shifter has to be in neutral or a back gear or else the screen won't clear it when it opens up. This is also with a stock shift knob.

Does the screen clear the A/C controls from the lower din with no problems? It looks like it does pretty well, but did you have to do anything special? I have to get a new unit now that some jerks went and jacked my deh980bt in my driveway.
