Rear left turn signal and reverse light stopped working after reverse camera install

Hi, I am trying to install a reverse camera on my 2003 Lancer Evolution. After everything, my left rear turn signal and reverse light stopped working. Here are the steps I took leading up to the problem:

1) Spliced and connected the rear left reverse light wire in the trunk to the reverse camera power wire.
2) Grounded the reverse camera to the chassis.
3) Also ran a wire from the rear left reverse light wire to my in dash GPS (this allows the camera to come on as soon as I put the car in reverse).

After all this, I put the car in reverse and it worked perfectly. However, after an hour, the camera, rear left blinker, and reverse light doesn't work. The in-dash left indicator blinks really fast (right side is normal). I disconnected the camera and re connected everything and issue persist.

PLEASE HELP!

Fuse? If not then you have a short, I am having the same issue, my hvac and rear passenger tail light is out. Everytime I change the fuse it blows immedietly.

I visually checked all the fuses, both under the hood and under the steering wheel; none of them seem to be blown. Do you know specifically which fuse it is?

If it does turn out to be a short, what are my options?

I read somewhere that if your fuse keeps blowing every time you change it, you should use a circuit breaker to diagnose whats causing the problem.

Hey,

I think it's fuse 21. I figured out what was causing my issue, my third brake light bulb was causing my fuse to blow. Swap out your light bulbs because they are dual filament.

If you swap the light bulbs and it's not that, and your fuse isn't blowing then you have a bad ground. All you can do is trace wire connections..

There are some connections behind your center console and left driver kicker panel that could be causing it too. Unplug them and check for corrosion.

So earlier I took my left turn signal bulb out and the filament was blown. Replaced it and now it works.

Both my reverse lights are still out though... Took out the bulbs and they are fine. Checked all fuses and they are all fine.

I'm going to take your suggestion and look at the connections. I read somewhere on this forum that swapping out the reverse light trigger will correct the issue...

I'll post up what I find.

Are you positive the bulbs arent blown? I took out my 3rd brake light and it looked fine (connections in bulb were still there), I didnt know it was blown until I replaced it.

And have you checked to see if your fuse is getting continuity?

So I just replaced both reverse bulbs. I also went through every fuse with a voltmeter and checked for continuity. All fuses have continuity, but I also replaced the 21 fuse with a new one just to make sure.

Still nothing...

The day after tomorrow I will check to see if the bulb sockets are still good and whether or not the wires that plug into the reverse light trigger is still good. Ill also try to find the ground for the reverse light as you mentioned earlier...

Meanwhile if anyone else have any ideas please let me know...

RECAP:

- Wired backup camera power wire to brown reverse light wire in the trunk (driver's side)
- Wired backup camera ground wire to chassis in the trunk.
- Ran a wire from brown reverse light wire in the trunk (driver's side) to headunit to automatically activate camera when put into reverse.

Everything worked perfectly for an hour or two then:

- Driver's side reverse light & driver's side turn signal stopped working.
- Camera doesn't come on when in reverse.
- Then, passenger side reverse light stopped working.

I tried to fix the issues with the following steps:

- Disconnected the camera wires
- Changed bulbs to the turn signal (this fixed the turn signal issue)
- Changed bulbs to both reverse lights
- Checked all fuses for continuity with voltmeter
- Replaced #21 fuse under the hood
- Replaced reverse light trigger on top of the transmission
- Checked for voltage in the brown reverse light wire inside the trunk (9ish)
- Checked for voltage in the reverse light trigger and its harness (7ish)
- Checked for continuity in the reverse light bulb socket

The only problem I have is that the reverse light wont come on no matter what I do. This is annoying and I'm going nuts. I'm thinking about bringing it to a shop tomorrow if I can't find a solution by then. My wallet is about to get a crap load lighter

Fuses good, getting power to wires and fuses, only thing I can think of is that maybe the switch you got was bad aswell. Try a paper clip in the switch for a sure circuit.

I checked the switch with a voltmeter and there is continuity...

Recently, all my turn signals just went as well. Do you think it might be the ETACS?

I'm bringing it to a mechanic Monday morning. I'll update after I get the car back.

Just got the car back with lights all fixed.

The mechanic said he replaced 3 blown fuses and taped up all exposed wires.
3days @the garage and 30min of labor: $140.

But was/am 98% sure that all fuses were good and all wires were sealed BEFORE I dropped it off.

I need a beer.
