How to power a lap timer but bypass cigarette lighter

Picked up an Aim Solo Lap Timer, and it comes with a cigarette lighter power cable to power it. I'm not electrically inclined at all, but would love to know how to run a new cable from the fuse box or something that can power this Lap Timer and bypass using the cigarette lighter cable.

Any help/links would be appreciated

If you do not want to damage the integrity of the lap timer by cutting the male plug off, and then splicing into the wire. I would recommend you getting one of these:

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Install-Ba...-Plug/41092493

It's a female adapter that has the wires coming off of it. Once you tuck everything nice and neat under the dash you can find many 12 V sources to wire into. You can even splice off the cigarette lighter plug in the center console.

Just make sure you hook the positive + and Negative - Wires up correctly.

You can use these to tap into the plug under the center console:

^ this is a great option. if you don't mind cutting the cord, you can always wire it to any switched power source and then ground it out. i have a gauge wired into the power wire on my cigarette lighter, in fact.
i'm not a fan of junk plugged into the lighter, either.
