if your generic controller's internal relay never see a huge amp draw from starting a stopped fan then it will last longer. I cant remember how capacitors play in getting a fan to move but thats a weak point also

I don't actually know why these units are failing. The gates one failed differently than the OEM and Ebay unit. It worked, but something in the control circuitry must have shorted to the controller chassis. If the hood was open it worked just fine, but if i closed the hood and grounded the radiator it would come on.

Ended up buying Nissan GT-R(R35) part and it works. Same Calsonic made one, hope it helps.

I ordered one from Aliexpress, will see how long it lasts.

Not sure about that, but no modifications needed.

Yeah? Great news. Maybe this is the new long term solution.

STM is just buying from Mitsubishi, and then reselling. Their prices have never been competitive with so many Mitsu dealerships getting into the E-Commerce game. Do they actually have any inventory? If the part is really disco and they still have some on hand, then can't complain as much about the price.

I bought from these guys in late November. I think I paid $225 at the time.

I will update if/when this unit fails.
Thanks for sticking with this thread!

My car is not much of a project these days. Occasional restoration/replacement due to aging parts but I mostly just want to keep it well maintained and drive it. So I just bit the bullet on a new Genuine unit about 2 months ago. Bought it from Daytona Mitsubishi (link above). You're 100% it's NLA?? Must have just happened!

Just looked into this, as I work at a Nissan dealership. They are the same, and only 90ish bucks too! Nice find.

Wow great info guys! I'm gonna have to pick one up from Nissan. I've already bought and installed the Orielly's unit, but I'll shell out 90 bucks to have a legit OEM unit on standby.

It's my pleasure. Yep I'm the same, the car is pretty much where I want it modification wise, so it's pretty much become a game of slow restoration when it needs it. Half the time these days it's me going in and correcting or improving on something I did to it when I was younger. It was actually Daytona that I tried to order from, they get almost all of my OEM Mitsu business.

P.S. I would stay away from the Ebay units. It's the first thing I tried, and it died quickly.

My cost is 52 and change. LOL. Plus a factory 12 month warranty. IF and WHEN I need one, it'll be the route I go.

Wow, is that a typical markup percentage in the OEM parts market?
