ECU pin install problem

So I'm trying to install a pin into ECU slot 64 (EVO 9) for an ethanol content sensor, and it only goes in about half way. I tried grabbing it with pliers to get better leverage, and I still can't get it to go in any further. From what I found on here, it should just push in. What am I doing wrong? Does the orange piece on the ECU connector have to be popped out in order to install the pin? Thanks

Not sure about the 9 but on my 8 with yellow ecu plugs there was a white plastic slot on the side of the plug and it had to be popped up in order to install the new pin for ethanol sensor

Yeah I know the 9 connectors aren't exactly the same as the 8, but if I have to pop that orange piece loose, then I'm not sure how. I tried to pry up on it a little bit but I didn't want to break anything

On mine there was a little hole on the side of the connector that I but a pin through and it allowed the piece to pop up and the ecu pin slide in

I tried pushing and pulling a few different ways on the orange piece without any luck. I don't see any sort of access hole either

Ok so I did some more digging online and found this thread which shows the clip being popped out. Doesn't say how exactly, but I'll keep messing with it.

Alright, I finally got the orange clip loose by using a very small flat head screwdriver to push it up from below (see red arrow), but I still can't get the pin to insert more than half way

Where did you get the ecu pin from? I used the spoolinup small pin

Yep, I'm using the spoolinup small pin and the appropriate crimp tool. And I confirmed that I'm inserting it in the same orientation as the other wires that are already installed. I even tried another pin since I thought I might have damaged the first one, but it still only goes in halfway.

Maybe try wiggling it might be getting hung up on something. On mine it went half easy then hit resistance then it clicked into place

Also make sure the crimped area hasn't been smashed to far out could cause it to hang up when inserting pin. I had to smash the side a little with players to bring it back to shape.

I tried using pliers to squeeze the sides of the end I crimped to make sure the width is uniform all the way back and tried wiggling it around as I push down, no dice. Same thing happens when I try a different slot too...

I know the 9s use a different brand/ style ecu connector not sure if the pin are the same. Maybe try and release one of the other pins in the connector to verify they are the same. If they aren't that's the issue might beable to steal one from egr if you deleted it.
