lithium ion battery
I wanted to see if anyone had experience using the newer LIthium Ion batteries. I have been using a 680 for many years, but because of not driving that much, I usually have to replace that battery every couple years. It just gets over worked I think, and not enough driving. I put it on a tender as well, but not very regular, so I just end up buying another one. This year I bought a LIthium Ion battery from a battery store that recommended it. I loved it, because it weighs nothing. is small etc.
It worked awesome for a month or so, but becuase of COVID there isn't that much driving going on. So I got a lithium battery tender. I used that, but for a couple weeks there was nothing connected. I tried to use the tender and it wouldn't charge, The battery went to 6V, and then after fiddling with it and charges etc its completely dead. No Volts. It could be a bad battery or it could just be that you cannot use that battery in the EVO as the stock alternator can't charge that battery?
Trying to see if anyone else has tried and troubleshot this stuff.

If you search there are threads covering lithium batteries and the nuances they come with. Directly to your question though, it depends on the chemistry of the lithium battery. Lithium Iron Phosphate "LiFePo4" match up well with the 14.x volt automotive system, other chemistry based lithium cells do not.
OK, Thanks, I didn't find anything in my initial searches, but I did find this one, where a bunch of the regulars are on.

The draining while not in use seems to be a critical thing for the Lithium Ion ones and is what happened to me I guess. I likely have some draw on the battery while the car is parked, and I need to find that.
Any ideas on what the usually suspects for that are? I have essentially always had battery life issues, so this is no surprise.

There are just systems that always draw power from the battery. Airbags, etacs, engine ECU etc. So unless you install a battery disconnect there will just always be a draw. There is a spec for power draw on the battery though and if you are drawing in excess of that, there could be something wrong. Aftermarket electronics are usually the culprit when that is the case.
Is it possible to measure the draw on the battery if I use my jump start battery connected to the positive terminal and then a volt meter in line of the negative feed? I am trying to identify if the Lithium Ion battery I got is the problem or its some wiring or short in the car.

Oh, well, the current lithium ion battery is complete dead. Its self tester button doesn't register anything anymore. nothing. So I need at least something that could let the flow run through the meter to show is pulling power. So I need some kind of battery. I'll take the dead one out.
