problems with stock battery?

whats up guys.......

well i was wondering if anyone else is having, or has had problems with their stock battery. i've had my car for about a year now, and yesterday my battery died on me. its completely drained. i'm honestly not sure how it happened. i checked everything though, and i didnt leave anything on by accident. i guess i'm going to have to buy an optima battery. anyways, anyone else notice this? or maybe just my bad luck

Bumping an old thread.

I just got back last night from a vacation and my battery is dead. It's the original stock battery that has lasted me nearly 3 years.

Has anyone else replaced their battery of that age recently? what did you go with?

If I get the car started back up it should charge some but I believe I have heard somewhere that once a battery goes dead once, it's performance from there on worsens? True or untrue?

Actually mine went out 2 nights ago after a little over 3 years. I just bought one at costco b/c it has a 5 year warranty and they are good about their return policy. I already installed and everything is just as good as before. It is true that once a battery goes dead that its performance goes down. I can't remember for sure but I believe it is about 6 times a battery can fully discharge and then be able to hold a charge, after that the battery just wont charge at all. So I would just eat the $40 and get a new battery.

Batteries die.

Bought my 01 RS, and a month later, the stock battery died. They wear out, just like anything else. Spring for a new one and if should last you a few more years.

Redtop = overpriced.

We're driving Lancers. A battery is a battery.

But I could be wrong.......

I was reading through a bunch of old threads before I posted in this one. The Evo guys were using Odyssey batteries I believe one was the 680 and then Buschur racing sold a small battery mounting kit for the EVO with two choices of battery.

I'd love to get the weight savings also but I haven't decided how much I want to spend on a new battery yet.

And the EVO small battery kit does not fit the Lancer.

Damn! I wanted to say that.

I know, because I bought one. Kinda crappy standing in the driveway going "uh oh..."

Buschur sells a decent mini-battery kit, but as WADAD said, don't buy their install kit. Evos have bolts that Lancers don't.

the only down side to the weight loss woul be wheel hop might increase since we are FWD.

DJ, is there any way that we could make the Buschur battery fit? slight modifications?

Nope. It's dependant on the bolts that hold the Evo battery in place. Since our battery is up front, we don't have those bolts.

With some custom work, I'm sure you could get it on there. But it definitely will not bolt-on as is.

Just go look at the area next to the fuse box.

Imagine a way to attach a flat area horizontally. Order the battery and get the exact size you need.

Then DO IT!
