2011 Evo X GSR - Battery replacement

Hi all -

I'm noticing my Evo X GSR is starting to have some difficulty starting up after sitting for a few days and with winter coming soon, I'm leaning towards buying a new battery; its served me well for 5.5 years. I had it tested recently and it came back with poor test results.

I have done a good amount of searching and I'm aware that the stock Panasonic battery has a ventilation component since the battery resides in the car. From what I read, there is a specific Optima Red battery for our car that dealers were replacing the Panasonic with but after all the threads I've looked through I was not able to pinpoint the exact part number I would need.

With that said, does anyone know what Optima Red top model that should be used with our cars or something else that is a stock equivalent? I would consider a battery like an Odyssey PC680 for the weight savings but from what I read, it might not be as reliable as a "conventional" battery, especially in the Northeast where we get in the subzero temperatures sometimes. Thanks.

The Mitsu part # for the Optima battery that is specific to the Evo X is ALE08FB1X01. It will cost you around $300 from a dealership.

That said, there is an Optima model you can buy outside a dealership. I believe it is 8020-164 35, such as this one. No clue as to the differences (if any) between the two.

Thanks. $300 is insane. I saw that Optima Red on Amazon but after reading some of these posts about our batteries needing a proper ventilation setup, I would just want to make sure that this battery addresses this. Does anyone know?

The Group 35 Red top should be a direct fit. It's completely sealed so no worries about ventilation.

I'm assuming this is the Group 35 based off the description of it -https://www.amazon.com/Optima-Batteries-8020-164-Starting-Battery/dp/B000MS9VZK?tag=viglink21384-20?

Yup, that's the one. The D35 is the yellow-top. I've had a couple of bad Red top experiences in other cars in the last few years since they moved manufacturing to Mexico but no Yellow Top failures.....
Just never let a gel-cell battery go completely flat. They often don't come back.

Replaced my stock Panasonic about 3 months ago with a Optima red top group 35 from Pep Boys. Been starting fine even after sitting for a few days in the colder New England weather. I'm happy with it.

Hopefully the replacement is an AGM or other sealed battery. If it's a lead-acid battery there's hydrogen coming out of it and you could end up with a really nasty surprise!

deciding between "Odyssey Battery 35-PC1400T Group Size 35 850 CCA" or "Optima Red Top Battery, Group Size 35, 720 CCA" to replace the stock pansonic ... I can not find any details as if any of these are "ventilated" as recommended... anyone have past experience with ether?

DD to a 2011 Evo X GSR

I just bought an AGM group 35 battery from Advance. Order online and you get like 20% off. It was vented and has a 3 year warranty.

I went this route after the Optima battery has been replaced a few times already.

I went with the Optima Red Top a couple of years ago. I’ve had zero issues with it.
