2003 Evo 8 Rapid Voltage Fluctuations. Please Help!
I have an interesting issue with my voltage on my 03 evo 8 Any input would be appreciated.
So i decided to get a higher output alternator (180 amp), see link for item i purchased. I did the "Big 3" wiring upgrade as well. I also purchased an Optima Yellowtop battery. I needed to upgrade the stock fuse from the 90 amp, so I purchased a 200 amp circuit breaker and ran all the wires that were on the positive terminal to this V-gate terminal block (also linked). Install went fine. The issue I'm currently having is when my sub is turned up high my voltage rapidly fluctuates between 11.9 to almost 16, back and forth. But if I turn my subs off and just have my speakers on, I can have them as loud as I want and it doesn't have the issue. Both my subs and speakers are on separate aftermarket amps. I never had this issue with my old battery and alternator. I had my same setup, as far as speakers and sub, and I had my sub turned all the way up and it never acted up. Could the new alternator be too sensitive to the sub and activating and deactivating the regular rapidly? Or do you think it could be the Vgate terminals? They didn't fit the best onto the battery posts, but I got them to tighten up and they seem to have a good connection. All my grounds seem to be solid. Any input would be appreciated. My guess is the new alternator is a peice of sh*t. I still have the OEM unit. Its just a PITA swapping them. I plan on doing it i just would like some input before i do incase i missed something obvious. Let me know if I didn't do a good job describing the issue. Thank you.
