How do you get aftermarket engine ECU and AYC to work - Evo 4 1997
Hello!
I have some trouble getting the AYC pump to turn on as it should. I have changed to a aftermarket ECU called MaxxECU Sport with flying lead so no plug in play.
I have looked up what signals the AYC ECU got from the engine ECU and seems like it was only TPS signal. I got a TPS signal wire from the TPS to the AYC TPS input and I get a 0v to 5v singal from the TPS and it changes when i move the gas pedal but no pump starting when I try to test the pump with the pedal down 3 sec test or while driving.
The AYC worked fine before the engine ECU change and have now checked that everything else is in order from relays to all grounds needed and signals and that the actual pump worked. Checked that all ABS sensors as well because the AYC uses the wheel speed sensors as well and it seems that eveything is in order their as well.
I use a bosch TPS for this ECU with 3 wires, 5v, sensor earth and signal instead of 4 as the OEM one has.
Has anyone had the same problem when changing to a aftermarket ECU or those anyone have any advice or thoughts on this?

Hi, I have literally just finished a Maxxecu conversion on My Evo 8. I use Maxxecu Race, originally bought the plug n play kit but was a 4 plug and my car is 3 plug so had to rewire from scratch which was very easy. I am using E throttle and E pedal plus some other upgrades.
with maxxecu there isn’t a dedicated 0-5v analog output so we have to get creative, you need a PWM to 5v output to feed throttle position into the AYC controller….
I used a Haltech analog to 5volt converter and used spare ignition 5 output, the table in the ecu is basically just seeing one of the 5v from the E throttle body and converts PW into 0-5v to mimic the TPS
very simple and works fine, if you are smart you can make a converter for the price of a coffee! I bought the Haltech thing for ease
As soon as you apply voltage to the TPS input you should hear a solenoid on the pump module.
Ive heard some cases of where the AYC needs an RPM / Tach input also but mine did not
In the M tune software, are you getting a valid TPS signal? If your tps wires are inverted you’ll get 5v with key on ignition on and I learnt that the AYC box doesn’t like it, maybe it senses a fault and triggers the 3 lights??
AYC CONTROLLER:
Pin 2 is sensor ground
Pin 24 is TPS input
have maybe you got your sensor ground and chassis grounds mixed up?
