Slide Hammer, which one?

I'm about to change out my clutch and I'm getting all my tools together. I see you need a slide hammer to remove the shaft in the transfer case. What type slide hammer? Anybody know what size bolt goes into the shaft? There are many different slide hammer, the most common are dent puller types. I've also seen posts that you can make you own with a longer bolt, a big washer and a pipe section as the hammer. Any details would be appreciated.

Any bodyshop dent puller style will work. The force needed is very small so dont worry about size. All pullers will let you insert a bolt or screw at the end so that wont be an issue either, good luck!

I actually did my trans with a sledgehammer, 3 feet of small chain, and a few metric bolts. I belive the bolts are 8mm 1.25.

bolted the chain to the axle shaft....wraped the chain around the hammer end. once swing and the shaft poped out. simple. Weight of the sledge hammer yanked it out fast.

Robi uses a bolt/washer arrangement to just wrench them loose... I'm way too tired to remember the specifics right now, but it is posted in one of the threads.
