i need a good autox turbo

I have a Br500 and i just did my first auto x with it. It spools too slowly for this. I want a turbo that will make 400 whp on pump and will spool as soon as possible. Also 500 whp on race would be nice.

I have an AEM EMS and all the other supporting mods to make this happen. I did a search for the GT30 and did not find much. This is what i think would work for me but i dont want to buy another turbo i am not happy with.

Help me PLEASE

I think your asking for too much.. I doubt you'll find a turbo that's well suited for autox and still make 500whp. Won't happen.

Your best bet for an autoX turbo is the EVO 6.5 TME turbo from forced performance. With a good tune and supporting mods you can pull 400+ whp on unleaded race fuel.

Dude stay with the stock turbo. I'm making 366whp on it and definatly over 400 on race. People have run 11.8 with 366whp and thats what I'm making on pump. On race I should be in the 11.5 territory. How much faster do you want to go?

spool is different in each gear and not good at all in the first 2. I only made 353 awhp and 312 awtq on 19 lbs with this turbo and the torque peak is at 4700. It is not a good pump gas turbo.

I bet if he could, he'd go back and do things differently. At this point I'm sure he's looking at his BR500 and trying to figure out how to rescue his investment. No doubt the stock turbo is a killer unit but it's not fair to compare the BR500 with the stock in terms of spool.

If it were me I'd consider selling the BR500 outright and build a "massaged" stock turbo. 4G63>OOOO has built a set up that has some crazy 2500rpm spool and puts out 380whp. Although a bit complicated, this is probably a killer auto-x set up. However it will still get breathless up top. Check it out: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ad.php?t=99398

An alternative would be to talk to Buschur and see if you could "trade-in" the BR500 for a BR440. The swap would take an hour to do. I have no idea what kind of deal Buschur would swing you. The BR440 is a nice turbo that will spool and develop peak torque just a few hundred RPM later than the stock turbo and has mad pull up to the redline.

Here's a "dyno" chart I logged. Don't focus on the peak numbers too much as I can't attest to the relative accuracy of the numbers. Instead focus on the torque curves and how the two compare. The BR440 is just behind the stocker in terms of spool and as I said, pulls much harder up top. Unfortunately on this plot the stock turbo data ends before redline and doesn't demonstrate the top end drop off. This tune was done using a Dynoflash. With a bit more tuning for this car's nuances, the spool and peak output could probably be improved.

I will think about the 440 but i plan on getting a stroker kit or a 2.4 block in the near future and want something that can support 500whp and still spool good now and stupid fast after the stroker kit. I know i am asking for alot but gt turbos could do better than the one i have now

Anyone tried the AMS smaller turbo kits? Seems like everyone is going with the 35r

Well, your in Street Modified, so you want to think these things out. Unless you do a stroker, don't consider going too a large turbo, anything besides a modified stock. An expensive situation on your setup would be to purchase a BR440 with the ball-bearing option and some HKS 264 Cams to aid in the spool up. But, big turbo's aren't your friend in autocross, the more technical the course, the worse it is. You still have to learn to drive (I'm still learning) to avoid turbo-lag, thing's like trail-braking aren't your friend unless you plan on shifting or left-foot braking. Shifting slow's your times down typically (I was shifting too much this weekend, stopped and dropped 2-seconds in non-comps). So, you can get some power on the BR400 with the ball-bearing option (especially on race gas), but your going to give up spool on just about anything larger than the stock twin-scroll unit. Power won't win you autocrosses (untill your ready for nationals and completely prepped out), if your in Street Modified you would probably be better off to sell your BR500 and invest in a set of R-Compounds and a properly setup suspension. So, it's all a matter of your budget. If you want to be competitive do the tires, suspension (and Evolution school whenever you have the time) and if you have extra money invest in the Turbo and the required elements to make it spool. If you have a large budget, and street modified allows this (but don't do it before R-Compounds and "setup" coilovers) do the Stroker (Make sure you have the complete BR Stage 4 supporting mod's before this).

And a side note, I rode in my friends 1G with a 16G turbo through the stock cast manifold, it spooled so much slower than my Evo. The factory twin-scroll is a great unit and almost unmatched for autocross.

And your BR500 is a Garrett GT Series just for references and don't expect the R model to make the difference you want in spool.

FYI: the turbo you have is a GT variant.

I would agree with others, either use the stock turbo, or try out the EVO 6.5 TME turbo from forced performance. That turbo sounds pretty bad *** for autox....

But still, the stock turbo is probably your best bet. I would sell the br500 and work on your suspension. If you don't have them already, get some coilovers. Be prepared to spend some money getting the right suspension setup. A good suspension setup is more important than power in autocrossing.

I have Stage 4, R compound tires, and suspension work. I won last time in SM even with the br500 but i had to drive the car very very hard to keep the turbo spooled. I know what to do to make the car handle i want the power. So has anyone tried the 3071 turbo? What is spool like? Pump gas power?
