Timing Control

What's up dudes. What is out there BESIDES the EMS, UTEC, and imprperly funcitoning EManage to control timing. Controlling AF is optional. I just want to be able to add or subtract timing and I do not need a full standalone or piggyback. Anything out there? Edumacate me! I already have a great flash. I just want a bit more timing adjustment when needed.

As far as I know, the Xede can control timing.

Again, no piggyback computers or standalones. All I want to do is control timing. I want to keep it as simple and CHEAP as possible.

Ignition timing and cam timing are two different things. I dont really think there is a super cheap way to do it.

Yep, he should get an XEDE, leave the fuel trim at 0 and adjust timing as necessary.

Or quit whining and dig into the wallet.

Apex-i used to have a timing controller. A lot of people would add them after an SAFC to get control over the timing.

If you want to add or subtract timing over the stock values, you'll have to "piggyback" the stock timing signal. You can't get around it. Apex-i used to make the ITC (ignition timing controller), but for some reason, they discontinued them.

If you're going to be messing w/ your timing and a/f's, you'd better have some sort of datalogger to monitor knock counts and the ECU's timing retard.

yeah so i guess the guy sold it ....and he was located in DFW too..anyways good luck man...because all of ignition timing is controlled through ECU...so short of getting another flash...or piggy back your options are limited

Correct. Manipulation of ignition timing means that the cam angle sensor and crank angle sensor must both be intercepted and modified to fool the ECU into firing the coils either earlier or later. In the case of a UTEC, it takes over driving the spark from the ECU altogether. Neither of these approaches are cheap, trivial, nor easy to implement. You're looking at some sort of piggyback to do this.

Alright, everyone, thanks for the info! ASTRO, thanks for thinking of that even though it didn't pan out.

Does anyone know if MSD makes an ignition that works for our cars? They have a timing retard/advance controller that works for some of their ignitions if I am not mistaken. Then I could get the benefits of timing control and a powerful ignition at the same time. Or no?

Ok, I called MSD and no luck. I guess I'll get a UTEC and go crazy with it.
