Angry Help! Major engine problem?

I need some help here pretty bad guys. I installed a Greddy Intercooler today and as far as I know everything went through the install perfectly. So my dad takes my car out for a spin, but I forget to change the settings on my EBC. I get a call from him about 10 minutes later saying that here a loud "boom" sound and the engine is dead.

Obviously, I in some major distress at this point, so I take my other car out to the spot and look at the last peak boost before the car died. It had hit 24.5psi on straight crappy 91 pump gas. I know this is bad. Now the car will barely start, and can't hold idle for more than 30 sec, if you can even call it idle.

So my question is, what do you think is the problem. My best guess is that the "boom" was major detonation, but I really don't know much. Is it possible that there's a cracked rod, or the crank? Or is it just that the spark plugs are shot?

Thanks is advance for the help.

I think you just answered your question when you said you put the new intercooler on. Double check the intercooler hoses and couplings. More likely your hose just blew off. If something happened in your engine, more likely wont start or turn over.

Agreed

Intercooler hose popped off !!!

Car can handle more boost then that.

I hit peak at almost 22 on crappy 91 with no knock or detonation...

Yea is the car blowing black smoke? Can't idle, go past 15mph gas pedal floored... Probably an intercooler pipe blew off as the other posts suggested. Messing with airflow sensor.

Your hose may have popped off. I had this happen to me but my car would start just fine then die if I tried to move it. Very unlikely you had a detonation from the mod you made. BTW what a guy lettng your dad drive your car... you sound like my son, he lends me his clk55 AMG.

Everyone's given you the right answer so far, but I'm just enforcing it . I had an upper intercooler hose blow off on me and the sound is horrible. It's loud as **** and the car dies straight away, I couldn't even drive it part throttle. Being an upper hose it was pretty easy to spot once I lifted the hood but, considering you just installed a new intercooler, I can't see it being anything else.

Hey guys, just checked to for loose hoses and guess what? You guys were right, there was indeed a loose and now that I've fixed it the car is up and running smoothly. So, thanks to everybody who posted and helped me out.

awesome, I'm glad it was that simple... it's so scary when you've got unknown problems!

Well I just took the car out for a spin to make sure everything was running well. However, it looks like I've run into another snag. When the car hits boost now there is a loud high pitched sound. I've never heard it before, is it normal? Could there be a leak somewhere between the turbo and outlet pipe? Does anyone have any idea what it could be?

Once again, thanx in advance for the help.

Eric

Yes, sounds like a leak somewhere in the system. Re-check all connections and maybe even pressure test it since you're having several problems today
