Unhappy backfire exhaust

I recently installed my turboback exhaust system... since then... everytime i quickly shift from 2nd to 3rd or from 3rd to 4th... my car backfires... ((makes a *POP* noise))... i know it's most likely due to the cat delete pipe... but... is it really suppose to do that every time i shift? and just because it backfires like that... doesn't necessarily i'm shooting flames every time right?

thanks for the input in advance guys!

Thats pretty normal from what I understand. My car with just a catback pops when I shift from 1-2 and 2-3. I think it's from the lack of backpressure.

Yea it could be a leak.. it's just fuel exploding in your exhaust.

On my old jetta if I would time my shifts just right I'd get a huge *POW* outta the exhaust... I thought it was the greatest thing ever

bolsen... you stated exhaust leak...

so would i just have to check my gaskets and tighten my bolts from the engine-dp, the dp-test pipe- and testpipe-cat-back??

The exhaust does make a "pop" sound when you release off the accelerator. It's normal. It pops on a stock exhaust too, but it's barely audible. A "backfire" occurs when it pops while pushing the accelerator. If you get a "backfire", then you have some problems.

kdogg... what kind of problems are you referring to?
my car "pops" after the shift... when releasing the clutch and getting back on the accelerator... during that initial point... *pop* goes my exhaust... how does this impose a problem?

Go to a shop and get it checked out if your really concerned; your syptoms to seem to be pretty common with going catless.

i would normally go to a shop to verify my problems... yet being catless in california... many shops tend to frown upon such a thing... that's why i'm turning the evom community to help me in this turmoil

Are you getting the pop while flooring on the gas? It sounds like you're getting it when you're shifting which is normal. I'm not engine tech or mechanic, but someone else can chime in to why a car backfires when stepping on the gas.

Mine does it also. It does it on part throttle shifts. As soon ans the clutch goes in it pops. Clutch in while i am on my way to 2nd or 3rd or 4th it pops but by the time i get it in the gear and let the clutch out it's done. Just curious about the flames? I have noticed that cars don't trail close behind after it happens a vew times... Usually on my way home from work after the car has warmed up a bit.

I had that on my Z when I changed my exhaust, and I had test pipes on. I took off the exhaust cuz it was too loud, but I liked the pop sound. I actually had some real "backfire" coming out of the exhaust. I have a video if anyone wishes to see
