What Do You Know About The Gt 28 Series?

Okay, so a few of you might know that I am now driving a new Elise. I have had the opportunity to have a custom/prototyped turbo kit put on this car. They estimated hp will be in the 300 range. If correct, that will give the Elise a hp to weight ratio of 6.58 pounds per hp - supercar territory. Whie I have made no commitments, and the price is being worked out, if performed, the car has the possibility of being on the cover of Raod and Track, but most definatly will be an editorial in the edition if not the cover.

My question is that the turbo system willl use a flip switch between 91 and 100 octane (no 93 dammit). As some of you may know the 2zz-ge already has 11.5 to one compression ratio. The turbo that is being considered is of the Garrett Gt 28 variety. I was wonder what people know of the response, and although I the exhaust housing has not yet been determined, I think that 300 hp will be possible.

My concern is that the car would have something like 230 hp on 93 octane, and the other 70 would be used with race gas - something that I do not want. I think that dyno numbers using race gas are almost irrelevent. i know that this is all speculation, but I want to know if the gt 28 produced much backpressuse. I know that quick response high back pressure leands itself to good dyno numbers, but poor street gas tunes. I want to know what people think of this turbo and the potential differnece between 100 and 91 octane. Will it be 25-30 hp? that would be fine with me. Would it be something like 50? That is not good-not worth it. Would it be 60+, that would be a waste of money, even if all of the installation and dyno tuning are done free of chargee.

Also, what is known of the unichip tuning? I know that cobb used to use it for their APS systems for the WRX, but wnated opinions about its quality. Don't be shy, any information would be greatly appreciated, as this will void the warrenty, but might lift the already amazing Elise into true supercar territory.

Ford Gt 3470 lbs 550 hp 6.3lbs/hp
Murcelago 3640 lbs 571 hp 6.4lbs/hp
ENZO 3255 lbs 627 hp 5.0 lbs/hp

MY Elise 1975 lbs 300(+) hp 6.58lbs/hp

Any thoughts?

Also, if anyone knows about the response of the gt 28 series on a 1.8 liter motor, information would be appreciated. I am considering this to help to lackluster perfomrnace of the engine fom 3500-6000 rpm. Response is importnat to this project, and while the performance is alread enough to break the rear tires loose in the right conditions at about 7000 rpm, a little more top end power would be nice also, although not absolutly necessary.

Anyone with any information please post, I know it is all conjecture, but it is still helpful to my deciision making process.

If im not mistaken that turbo is also called the "disco potato". They used that on a 2 liter Sr2-det and it was a blast to drive on the street. Great response and very little turbo lag, not designed for ultimate horsepower. Sounds perfect for the Elise, good luck!
