Smoking, anybody else?

I've noticed in my rear-view mirror, that when I take off hard I get the ussual "rich" black smoke but I've also see some lite blue smoke (oil). Any body else seen this? I've noticed at about 2500miles on an oil change, I'm down about a 1/4 of a quart.

Next time you go in for a change try using a non synthetic oil. Full synthetic oil doesn't have the sealing properties of real oil.
If it continues for too long I would be tempted to think it's a piston ring problem and should be looked at or replaced.
Every time I've burnt oil in any car a bottle of oil treatment fixed the problem.

wow, don't go non-synthetic. You car is designed for synthetic oils, so thats not the problem. Could be a piston ring or two, but more likely your just running super rich. Hows the gas milage?

It usually happens in 1st gear when you hit boost right? It's just your stock ECU dumping too much gas once boost hits. How can you see both blue and black smoke?

Are you running a test pipe?

A 3in. downpipe could have the effect of letting the 'unburnt' fuel out even easier.

BTW when I got behind an STi the other day, and he took off ... I was really surprised that he was throwing out a ton of black unburnt fuel out the back also. The "margin-of-safety" really is quite conserative when it comes to fuel mixture ... on the EVO and STi .. they run really rich out of the box.

Sounds about right. Would the dp kill my stock cat? Not much to worry about since I plan on replacing the rest of my exhaust.

I'm runnign a 3" TB with cat delete and notice the same thing when I get on the gas. It was black smoke at first when car was stock, now I get some blue smoke also. Car runs fine though. Just make sure you are changing and chicking your oil on time.

Cars that run this much power need to dump alot of gas in them to run "safely" They all also need to have legal requirements met (Like a crankcase vent and a PCV Vavle. These two items will run oil into your intake tract... this is normal. So yes, all cars will burn some oil and higher performance cars (Especially when the exhaust is modified) will shoot smoke out the back. If it blows enough smoke for someone to actually see it floating away there is a problem. If it just blows some smoke out and it blows away instantly there is nothing to worry about.. if that makes sense to ya
