Thoughts on ATP VES?

Any thoughts on the Virtual Exhaust System from ATP? It is a diverter valve that by passes the exhaust system under full boost. It would be a great alternative to a full 3". It could be placed before the cat. In no boost, you would have the quiet stock system, then when boost hits, the valve opens up and it's like having no exhaust system at all! Check out http://www.atpturbo.com.

Looks real interesting. I would love to hear from a EVO owner who has tried this.

I would love to also. Actually, even if no one has tried it, I would like to hear if anyone would think if theoretically it will be good.

I haven't heard of anyone doing this, but it's a pretty simple concept.... after a certain psi, the valve opens and the exhaust is routed out the dump vs going out the *** end.

In the GM world, electronic dump valves are huge.... this is just a pressure activated switch. It's nice because if you want to just putt along, you can keep it out of boost and it doesn't open but at the same time a downshift will give you the advantages of a full open exhaust.

Would like to know as well. It's not just a cut out, it looks to have a vacum actuator. My question is can you adjust spring tension like an APS BOV or is it preset? Does it open dynamicaly or is it an open or closed kind of thing

I've made a thread and several posts about this concept, how it works, etc. I have a very similar setup on my car, except my butterfly valve that's connected to the cut-out is electronic and opens/closes with a switch. In my opinion, having a boost-actuated valve is worthless. One of the major advantages of a cut-out on the downpipe is to expel exhaust gases at a much more rapid rate enabling the turbo to spool significantly quicker. This benefit is negated with that ATP valve since it only opens under boost. It's a good setup... just don't have the valve boost-actuated... ruins the advantages it would give if it were open before WOT.

A while ago, I posted about some dyno runs and dragstrip passes comparing an open downpipe with a full, connected exhaust. The motivation for this was to see if the electric cutout was worth it.

The open downpipe was worth about 2mph/0.2s on the dragstrip and 16whp on the dyno. During these tests, I had a stock catback. So the gains will be less with an aftermarket CB.

One of the best things about the open downpipe (which the above tests can't show) was the absence of any turbo lag on the launch. The turbo spooled instantly and I actually had trouble with wheelspin. It felt very similar to launching a V8 muscle car.

In light of this, I don't like the VES system. It waits until you build boost before it opens, so you dont get the improved spool up that you'll get with an e-cutout.

If I ever go this route, I'd opt for an e-cutout that allows you to control the open/close position, like QTP.

I dont know about you but i would like to have control, not when it goes to boost.
