clutch slipping or ??????????
Hey guys,
I recently noticed something severely wrong with my car sometimes in third gear, but mainly when I'm in fourth and fifth gear. This happens too often to ignore and only noticed when I'm on the freeway. I'm approaching the 11,000 mile mark with the fluids changed regularly and no abuse to my beloved EVO. Both brake and clutch pedals feel to have lots of life remaining.
I'm cruisin' at about 3,000 RPM or so and then decide to floor it. The RPM's go up another 1,000 or so, FLUTTER and maybe even drop a little before deciding to start rising again. It sounds as if my clutch is slighty engaged and makes me want to reach down and pull my clutch pedal out. Is this the infamous "clutch slip"? If not, then what is it??

It sounds like the clutch is slipping, thats pretty much what my clutch did when it started to go although for me it was more noticable in 1st and 2nd gear than the later gears. just my 2 cents, good luck with whatever it is
it sounds like your clutch. the best road test to determine this is to get on the highway, put the car in 4th and cruise. when your is at about 3k rpms, depress the clutch and rev the motor. dump the clutch at between 4k and 5k rpms. if the revs don't drop right back to 3k immediately your clutch is slipping. i know this may sound a little harsh but doing it once or twice won't hurt anything. if the revs go right back to 3k you have another problem.

If its your clutch it will keep getting worse and worse. Soon you will give it gas and it will jump 3-4k before engaging. Then you can go to mitsu and get kicked in the nutz when they tell you the will not cover it.
