A little off subject....can you comment on the wastgate....I havent seen the "new" design yet

Oh...their was supposed to be a cam revision on the models with this turbo (or maybe the MR) I was wondering if the duration was tweeked or simply the lift? Perhaps this little change in cam profile can lead to good power if adopted into the 03 and 04's (maybe)

I'd like to say that photos would be worthwhile, Unfortunately other than the dimple where the casting "Tree" was attached, there's no visible difference on the outside, and the differences side by side are not easily distinguishable without a caliper, micrometer, or measuring its interior volume.

I'll snap a few photos of the item but it really looks no different than every other compressor cover I've worked with for the TD05xxx16G6-xxxt series...

I'm still not 100% sure that there is any real value to upgrading the cover but I was able to get my hands on one..

Ok...so you think the wastegate would be worth any hassle of obtaining? Better flow through their would at least let the turbine spin a little faster from turbine idle ( idle < ~9000rpm )

Nope.. not an MR turbo.. look closely at the third pic.. inside of the port is stamped 9.8 but it does have the revised wastegate so its definitely a 2004 or newer JDM turbo..

Hey, this is a compressor housing thread..

Anyway, as far as I can tell, the USDM 04's were the same as the 03 turbos.. and all the 05's including the MR got the same newer turbo which has a revised compressor cover and 10.5 turbine housing with the revised wastegate housing. I'm not quite sure where that particular turbo fits in. But it might be a base turbo for a JDM Evo 8 for '04... Since the place that you got the pics for claimed its a TD05HR-16G6-9.8t I have to believe its the same unit our Evo's have and that its a revised part. the JDM MR turbo "SHOULD" be TD05HRA-16G6-10.5t where the 05's and USDM MR gets the TD05HR-16G6-10.5t.. This is according to the info available to us at the moment. Although the part number of the turbine housing has changed, the model of the entire unit obviously has not, which means the revised parts supercedes the older ones.

What does this mean? Well, if you have an 04 its possible you may see either type of the 9.8 turbo. As far as I can tell, the wastegate flapper is an efficiency thing, and allows bypassed exhaust gasses to exit the turbine housing to control boost levels, therefore in theory, AFAIK, its only affect you be in reducing boost creep and possibly smoothing turbulence into the O2 housing. I have never never experienced boost creep with this turbo or its variants.

This is an off-topic post in this thread, so if you need any more info PM me...
