Xede question
Xede question
i know this should probably be in te Xede list, but I have a few questions and want some answers from people who do and don't have Xede. Currently I have an SAFC, which is nice, and am looking at stepping up a notch. The Xede is first in line because of the base maps and user tunability. On the other hand, a lot of people from SoCalDSM/EVO talk not-so-highly of Xede and its results. Just wondering if it is just personal dislike or does anyone have stats to back it up (either way...for or against).
You might find a slightly more neutral answers concerning the Xede here on evo'm. Thanks for asking. Try doing a search if you haven't already.
I personally give the Xede a
and think its the best interim solution for ease of tuning, maintaining streetability, etc... It really does come with great support. My statements are quite general for now ... but perhaps others could chime in on the specifics. Or rather, perhaps you could state what you want out of the Xede. That might help a bit.
Cheers,
jcnel.

BTW, if you get one, you can sell off that safc. You'll never need/want it again.
I've had my XEDE for over a year now. I have used Vishnu's website maps, a custom baseline tune, and some additional local dyno tuning with me pushing the buttons (with the help of a good proefssional tuner); I couldn't be happier with mine. My XEDE has been in for about 15K miles now and my car has seen all kinds of conditions, including regular track use.
My car is a bit of a mutant and diverged from the Vishnu path a while ago. The XEDE has readily met my needs, and Vishnu has been great about questions and support. As someone who knows "just enough to be dangerous" I really appreciate the level of saftey the XEDE offers. At one point I was strongly considering changeing to a UTEC, but it just didn't seem to provide that same level of protection.
If I were to complain, it would be that new features tend to lag behind some of the competing products. But when they finally are introduced, they work great.

I just sold my XEDE to go with a UTEC based on the following:
Data Loggin is OK on the XEDE, but not as comprehensive as the UTEC:
If you want to plug in Maps, retain Safety, and are OK with someone else calculating the offsetts, you can't do better from what I 've heard.
Utec is more direct because it actually runs the car (as oppsed to intercepts and interprets data for the ECU)
The problem that I have with that is that I am trying to learn this stuff for myself. I decided to avoid having to learn 2 concepts (basic tuning, and how to offset basic tuning, keeping all the factors and variables in mind).(no doubt! Shiv is borderline genius)
Plus I live in a place where he doesn't come very much, why was one of the reasons that I got it in the first place. I wanted to have the guy the knew it better than anyone else do the tuning. I'm sure there are people out there that can and have produced outstanding results. I just wasn't sure that I could find them.
Good Luck
