Agreed, compressor surge puts onwanted stress on the thrust bearing of the turbo.

DV = Diverter Valve

BOV = Blow-off Valve

A DV "diverts" the air from the IC piping to the intake, a BOV simply "blow's off" the air to the atmosphere. TiAL makes a BOV since it cannot be rerouted to the intake. The Type-S is a DV that can also be used as a BOV. Most factory (note I said most, not all) DV's can not be used as BOV's because they're designed to remain open when seeing vacuum essentially causing a hole in the IC piping when the throttle is closed, this causes major issues for MAF based cars that aren't running a blow-through setup. Example, an S13 Silvia or Z32 300ZX DV will be WIDE OPEN when seeing vacuum. When these DV's are properly connected to the intake post-MAF it is a non issue since the air they are letting directly into the IC piping is already metered by the MAF.

Incorrect terminology, the fact is it isn't. People just get used to using certain words to describe things even when it's not the right word.

 

Thank you for posting that. It's really irritating to see "MR BOV stalling my car!!" when it does not come with a BOV. When I see posts like that I think to myself, "is there something this jackass knows about the MR that I don't?" I still want a BOV for the EVO but I won't pick one up until I get the MAF taken care of. I had a BOV on my GTI and it ran like crap. I could never transition my shifts smoothly with the HKS SSQ unit, then I put my Forge back in and wow. Let's all pledge to use the correct terminology and use the terminology in correct context. The world would be a better place if we could all participate.

 

Hi. Sometimes on the Internet, its easy to make spelling errors and grammatical mistakes. I hope you are not referring to my post. Oh, and please stop nitpicking and being a jack ***, with your cute responses. The MR DV Valve can fall under a BOV, so i just did it in General. Word? Word...

This was done under WOT until about 5k. At 13 or 15 seconds its much clearer. The last part is just normal driving up to about 3k-3.5k. This is directly ouf out of the box settings. I did not change anything, yet.

Spend some time tweaking the type s and it runs perfect! Yes, it does make some boy ricer noices though.
