If it only Dynos 5 whp more than an 03~04' EVO it should still take a similar amount of mods to get it to 400whp, there have already been people on the "older" EVO's that have pushed 400hp on the stock turbo.

I think given the right small mods, you can approach that on either car.. Its just that you have to place both on even ground, so for an older car, the $550 or so for the compressor cover and 10.5 housing are a worthwhile upgrade. My personal opinion on aftermarket turbo upgrades is you end up removing many of the desirable traits and reliability that the stock turbo components offer. But this is pretty off-topic.. You guys will have to wait a little while before I can offer any actual data, what i'd like to see is someone with the ability to do a flow analysis to post compressor maps of an 03 and an 05 turbo.. Given the "Cartridge" between the two is the same, you can at least attribute the differences to the compressor cover and 10.5 housing and show that there is a difference on paper. I think it'll take some time (and more 05 evo's getting modded) to demonstrate the differerences (plus although there appears to be very few differences in the engine/exhaust design, nobody is 100% certain that its actually true.. JustDSM has been researching engine components for us and the only different part #'s he's found are the compressor cover and 10.5 hot side) Ecu differences are generally better tuning, that portion would be equalized by using a reflash all other things being identical (03 with upgraded turbo components) Time will tell..

All evos have the same motor, so basically, given an MR and an 03' Evo with the same mods, they should both have the same power output (theoretically) with any flash, right?

Not entirely.

The basic 4G63 should be the same.

The MR turbo dimensions are different. And the MRs use dual solenoid actuators.

The cams and pistons are different (at least on the JDM MR, not sure about the US Spec MRs)

Hey Al,
Any chance you'll come up with some sort of piggy-back engine management unit in the future working in conjuction with some 3rd party company? Or maybe some thing like what Cobb offers in the accessport? Downloadable maps would be sweet ...

I dont like piggy backs - I think the stock ecu is the best engine management system available.

However, our current flashing platform is very limited in what we have access to and exploring other features is very time consuming and takes a great deal of trial and error.

I have become a Ecutek dealer and they are working on the Evo flash version and I have been in discussions with them sharing some data to help them get the Evo flash version ready.

When its released there will be a lot of options which we do not have not such as map switching and enhanced data logging capabilities. For details look to www.ecutek.com. I am usuing this softwear on STI's now and it is like turning the stock ecu into a AEM stand alone - only more accurate and running better.

hold on let me understand this, if base line is coming up at 246 whp for evo's, by only adding a MBC and a flash you get 283 whp,

how much are these flashes, do I have to use my own ecu, or can i buy one from you

The flash is $199 through the mail and $399 custom tuned on our dyno if you can make it here

You have to send in your ecu - but we can flash it and get it out the same day by fed ex back to you - thanks
