Help With Cam Install!!!!!!

Ok i just finished putting everything back together, i just installed the HKS 272 intake and 272 exhaust cams with new HKS cam gears. Everything seemed to be at TDC but when i started it up it had a rough idle (to be expected) but also started backfiring about once or twice every 2 minutes. Now what setting should I have these cams at perhaps they are too agressive to be at TDC and need to go back a degree or so. or maybe the backfiring is something even bigger

Need your opinions and Feedback so that i can get this finished tonight

THANKS

-ED

2 things could have happened. Most likely its just the fact that you MUST get some sort of tune to richen up the mixture at idle for the cams. The other possibilty is that the balance shafts could have moved and you're out of balance, in that case you need to take it all apart and follow the Mitsu instructions to detail.

Also check that you didn't put in the cam angle sensor incorrectly on the exhaust cam.

What Gil is trying to describe is if you change cams and use the long threaded rod trick instead of pulling the front timing cover off to make sure that when everything goes back together all timing marks are in line, there is a possibilty that the belt which had some slack in it when cam gears came off could have jumped even 1 tooth on balance shaft that the timing belt also spins,or even if the front cover was off and who ever replaced cams/gears didn't have everything in line when everything came apart and just spun all gears that the t-belt drives to their respective marks, there is still a chance that the balance shaft is not in time with crank/cams.

Understandable, guess it is possible especially if they tryed to crank it down and ended up with alot of slack. Very good point, Check the CAS sensor first though much easier to know for sure. Thanks for making that more clear turboDan.

No problem. After reading this thread again I noticed that they had changed cam gears as well which could have caused alot of slack in t-belt.

well we never actually got any slack on the t belt, and when it did get on there there was a tooth per groove and was manually crancked twice
