Evo VI dyno results

Hello,

My father has an Evolution VI GSR and toda he went to a dyno. The results are here http://members.westnet.com.au/astondg/Power.jpg (power) and here http://members.westnet.com.au/astondg/Boost&AF.jpg (boost and A/F) Blue line is before and green is after. It made 162kw (217bhp) @ about 16psi.

The car is standard except for a pod air filter and a manual boost controller that was removed after the first run. Aparently on it's first run it made about 170kw @wheels but the mechanic said it was a bit lean and the boost was too spikey (if that is a word?) probably because of the pod air filter. Also he said that the boost controller was installed incorrectly so he took it off. He still says the pod air filter could be causing a small power loss so we air thinking about finding a factory air box and Ralliart or K&N panel filter (the pod air filter was on the car when my Father got it).

Any comments or suggestions?

Hi,

Thats pretty good for a stock standard 6. I think the Evo 8's in the states put out bit less, think about 190 to the wheels and the new Evo 8 that just landed in Australia puts out between 145 to 149 kw at the 4 wheels on the same dyno.

Yes the pod filter may be a problem on stock standard engine with no mods. Think that has been discussed inside here before. Try K & N panel, works better all round cause then u don't have the problem of sucking in hot air in traffic. Although the pod is not the main reason its going lean.. Your a/f is typical mitsu ecu goes straight down into the 10's on a/f which is safe enough..

Use an electronic boost controller instead of a MBC.. the spiking on a manual boost controller is dependent on how its hooked up and how much length in between the wastegate and the turbo. Not saying its not good but I prefer EBC..

Cheers....

Thanks, we will look into the K&N panel filter but it is good to know that it is normal.

The electronic boost controller is a good idea, I'll let my father know and Christmas is soon so maybe I have an idea for his present .
