System too lean CEL with cams

Hey all,
Has anyone looked to see what their CEL codes were after cams. Not that everyone would because its common that a CEL would throw a code for an aftermarket part. Anyway, I have gotten the reflash for the P0300 but I was also getting the P017 something. Anyway, its a system too lean code. Possible remedy is to replace the front O2 sensor but it could also be caused by the low vaccum the cams are making and not dumping enough fuel to keep the AFRs in line. Has anyone else experienced this? Later

I'm pretty sure that signal is being thrown because the ECU is at the extent of its latitude in attempting to richen the mixture at PT and still comes up short of what it needs to reach stoich. The long overlap of the 272s will lean the mixture at low rpm and PT operation.

I don't know the details on how the UTEC works and/or if it affects the factory PT settings, but it probably means that you have some tuning to do...better sooner than later. Also, check that code to see exactly what it is.

I called my buddy at the dealership0. He is going to look it up for me and let me know. Its definitely titled "system too lean" but he is going to get me the exact CEL code for it.

it is that way because the eco trys to make it rich but the fuel management prevents that

do you have bigger injectors?

If you do, that is the reason

I get the same code only if I idle for awhile, after putting 720 injectors my idle got worse ,after I got reflashed the idle is better but the system lean bank 1 code pops up once in awhile when the idle gets really lopy after an abrupt stop...no bigee nature of the beast.

I also think the BOV has alot to do with how the car idle's.. Might try the MR BOV and see what happens...

It will be interesting to see what Mitsuorder's car does... we just installed his lopey 272's. He is granny driving until he gets it tuned for them. He has not thrown a code yet, but he will see a lot of light throttle between now and his tune date.

Goodluck to him to try and take it easy. I think at cold starts he will be fine but once the car warms up and the o2s are working he may find that the CEL may pop up. It didnt pop up right away for me but eventually did before I upgraded the injectors.

Never had that code with straight 264's with stock injectors.

P0171 system too lean. MAF meter seeing too much airflow at idle so it richens up the A/F mixture to compensate it. But too much would trigger the SES light.

I see you got cam gears but set at 0. Try adjusting them to reduce overlap on your cams.

I had some pud in a BMW Civic (325) Try to play with me on the highway today while I was cruising in the right hand lane coming back from class, I just looked over and smiled and ignored him. So far no codes what so ever but I will keep all updated.

Sorry blonde. Please moderate ALL rude comments equally then. Thanks for keeping things real! If we could just eliminate ALL rudeness then we'd just be one big happy, but you might have to erase almost all the threads on this website. And what a wonderful website it is! I mean, why, if someone is allowed to be abrasive like SilverOwner just was, am I forbidden from participating? Why was his negative post not edited? Thanks again, take care.

SilverOwner, check the posts above and you will find your answer.
