Evo Oil Filter Question

Do you also agree that since water is cheaper, we should use that instead of motor oil?
OEM doesn't always mean best. You get what you pay for, and Mobil 1 has been known for years as being one of the best out there for a very competitive price.
BTW, I was showing the price the dealership would charge for the OEM oil filter. If you are going to compare the price Auto Zone will charge for the Mobil 1 one, then I can quote the dealership's price.

. Although FRAM is not the best I've been using it on supras, hondas for the life of the car and have seen no issues. To each their own peference.
Check out Purolator also. They are priced very nicely and have been good for me when I had my Impreza. I will most likely buy them for my next oil changes. Good quality filters.

HREVO: Yes, you need to use a new crush washer every time you take out the oil drain plug.
4ce fed: Buy an OEM filter and a Mobil 1 filter. Take a Dremel tool and cut them both open. Maybe you were lucky, maybe the damage will take longer than 2 years (probably will start showing up just after the cars start falling out of warranty age, if you get what I am saying), or maybe the filter worked on that car, and not the Evo. There are quite a bit of differences between the Evo 1,2,3/DSM 4G63 and the Evo 4,5,6,7,8 4G63. For one, I don't remember either of my Eclipse GSX's saying anything about having to use synthetic oil......
I'm glad you don't like the OEM filter. Less demand means lower prices for me. I never said it was the best.
However, I did AutoX in my Eclipse many times. Put many miles on it. Sure there are differences between the DSMs and the Evo. But the oil flows through the filter the same way. And anyone who knows anything about marketing and warranties would know that synthetic isn't required for our cars. The Evo would probably run just as long on dino oil. Syn oil helps protect the turbo from those morons that like to go 90mph to work and then shut the car off without any cool-down time. They make more $$ on oil changes due to higher prices of oil, and pay less in warranty claims.
Same for FRAM. People always said they were complete garbage. I used FRAM on my first Eclipse for close to 3 years. Zero problems. Now, did the internals of my engine look as good as one that ran a Mobil-1 filter? Who knows. The point is that the OEM filter, and most filters out there, are good enough for 95% of the people. If you plan on track racing, where there is a huge demand on the car and oil system, then yes, a different filter might be a good idea.
Oh, and I use the same crush washer every time I change my oil. No leaks.

I've never use a new crush washer either.
One other quick question along the same lines.
Does mitsu track your oil changes with them? ie if i get the oil changed by someone else would that get me into warranty trouble?
I can get the OEM filter for 6 bucks and some Mobil1/Amsoil for dirt cheap. A lot better price than the $80 oil change the dealer wants to charge!!!

I always used mobil 1 filters until i found out oem was much cheaper, so i go w/ oem...I think its prob around the same quality for the price. IMHO
EDIT: I now run Wix and might be possibly trying Baldwin filters too.

As long as I use Mitsu filters/synthi oil and have a reciept they wont mess with the warranty.
Oh, and they are replacing the rear wing for free (under warranty) since its sun damaged...
When mitsubishi switched to a universial filter, it was crap. In 2K3, Mitsu had a filter specifically for the Evo, and then stopped offering that a year or two later.
Never buy or use the OEM filter, seriously...especially if you use race gas at all.
I use a K&N model 1010 and it works great. The last OEM filter I had on my car got internal damage somehow and was 'fluttering' inside. I thought it was engine knock, but it turned out to be the OEM filter.
