If your saying that all filters are the same... YOu are wrong! A filter is not just a filter. If you think that is true, you should go by a fram filter and run the cheapest oil you could find. If a filter is just a filter, then all oils must be the same too.

K&N HP1010 son...... Don't run anything else if you care about how your oil is filtered.

Wow, I swore by OEM but I've never really cut one up to compare. I take it that the ones that you offer are synthetic media. Is the oil filter part number different for a DSM to an Evo? I'd like to try one on my GSX if you carry it.

What is the difference between paper and synthetic media? Well, I know the name is different. What is the filtering difference? What does synthetic media provide that paper cannot?

Paper does not occur in nature. So, if you wish to use the word synthetic in the way it is used to describe synthetic oil, then paper is synthetic. However, synthetic, in regards to an oil filter element, is a word used by the advertising department in an effort to convey the fact that the filter maker has done something to the filter element that makes it something other than a normal paper element.

That something may be no more than the addition of cotton fibers to the paper. Or it could mean they punched holes in the paper. It could mean that the paper is made of something other than wood fibers. It could mean the element is multi-layered, sometimes with progressively smaller holes in the inner layers. And, I suppose there are other treatments and creations I haven't remembered or imagined.

The Purolator Pure One filter has been, and most likely still is, the best filtration element available. But, because the pores in the element are so small the oil volume that can be moved through the element is reduced. So, the maker packs in the can a huge amount of media to increase the surface area of the element. Still, some people avoid using this filter because they worry about oil delivery or the bypass valve opening. The point is, there is more to making an oil filter than having the best filtration.

Also, if the maker uses a very small pore size then these pores are more subject to plugging. A plugged filter that bypasses means you have no filter at all. The progressive multilayered filters are an effort to address filter plugging.
