AEM EMS vs. HKS F-Con Pro V
We have just become an HKS "Pro Dealer" and have been playing with the FCON V Pro for a couple weeks now. It's seems to be a very good system so far...
One good difference between the AEM EMS and the FCON is that the FCON can still retain the factory ECU. Don't get me wrong though, the FCON is still a full standalone. The factory ECU can be left in the loop to control idle, air conditioning, etc. The FCON takes FULL control over fueling and ignition timing.
Right now, I'd have to agree with most that the AEM has fantastic tech support. The AEM forum will net you an answer to almost any question you have regarding the system and functionality. Price of the AEM EMS is also very attractive.
Standalones are not for everyone though. If you plan on tuning the system yourself, be prepared for a lot of downtime and consistent "fine tuning".
FCON V Pro can be an expensive unit when you add up all the supporting pieces you need. It can ONLY be tuned by an authorized HKS Pro Dealer. End user tuning is not possible at all (with an exception of an optional adjustment knob that can be set to trim fuel, timing, etc).
We are still working with the system, so we'll have more information available when we learn more about it ourselves. So far, we are very impressed at how well it starts up with larger injectors. Almost stock like. AEM units are notorious for cranking for a good couple of seconds.
More info to come...
