crankwalk...
anyone nervous about the new EVO VII getting crankwalk -- or anyone that has an EVO already experience this? many of the 2G eclipses are prone to this.
thoughts? opinions??
i thought that this would be a good topic to discuss.

if crankwalk is crankshaft endfloat problems then it doesn't seem to be an issue on the 4g63 engine in the Evo's. Generally block is very strong. Some people fit stronger big end bolts. Personally i wouldn't bother with stock internals.
Here is some info on CW: http://www.roadraceengineering.com/w...crankshaft.htm
It only happens on 2G manual transmission turbos (95-99). It's pretty rare on stock cars, but is more prone on modded 2Gs. Usually happens to the DSMers after upgrading to an ACT 2600 clutch.

Crankwalk????
Where are these engines made that have this crankwalk problem? In New Zealand we have plenty of 4G63 engined cars and I've never heard of this predicament happening at all. Most if not all of the engines have been manufactured in Japan.

Yeah that would make sense. Until recently on another site I had never even heard of the term "crank walk". I've owned 3 4G63T engines over the last 6 years including my Evo and nowhere do we hear talk of crankwalk here in NZ or even haven't heard the Aussis mention it either come to think. So you can't really go blaming Mitsubishi Japan then.
