Thermal R&D Catback for EVO 8

I need feedback from those who have the system. From my understanding the exhaust is pretty new.

This is their website: www.thermalrd.com

here is the exhaust for sale: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...spagename=WD1V

I want to see what you guys think of it.

rino,

Thermal has had an Evo exhaust for quite some time. They were one of the first to release one for USDM Evo's. Unless they made changes in manufacturing those that have bought it confirmed that it's not 3" all the way and tappers at the connection to the catalytic converter section.

Is the muffler canister round or oval?

n00dle, forgive my ignorance, I didn't know it had been out already. Thanks for the information. I have had my evo for almost a year now and I'm just looking into getting an exhaust now. I got my evo because it was brand new and it could get me around with no hassle as it's now my daily driver. I've had other toy cars in the past that ended up being unreliable because of the power gains I was aiming at. I think i've been a good boy this year and minimized my spending on the evo as far as unecessary aftermarket parts now that i'm on my own. A lot of the exhausts out there I `heard` taper to less than 3" going into the cat. For now what I know for a fact doesn't taper is the helix catback, but it doesn't come close to the stock look. But I'm considering a few exhausts that have the stock look such as the B&B and AVO. I don't plan on rushing into buying an exhaust sometime soon, I'm just snooping around and see what I can learn. The search is just a little too cluttered and too much non-sense going on with a lot of the posts that are completely irrelevant to the topic. I appreciate your input.

B&B and AVO also taper IIRC. Many have them and are happy with them. Just be aware of what you want and are getting. What are you looking for in an exhaust besides looking stock? Does increase in power, weight and proper fittment matter? Some things to consider....

I'm interested in an exhaust that doesn't taper down less than 3" to the cat. If the B&B and AVO taper down, I guess i'll have to settle with either stock or a canister style like the helix. The weight of the exhaust doesn't matter too much. I am looking for the stock look and somewhat of a power gain. I am planning on keeping my factory cat. Fitment is not an issue as I can always modify the exhaust myself. I may just be asking for too much here, but i'll keep my eyes open and see what else is available.

If you don't mind me asking, which exhaust do you have on your evo?

Thanks for the picture. It sure looks close to stock (minus the chromeness). Do you know if it does in fact taper down? Thanks bud.

Full 3" systems that i'm aware of off the top of my head that are close to "looking stock" is Perrin and Vishnu. The latter being quieter of the 2.

p.s. You know what I have, you've heard my exhaust.

My first mod in my Evo is the Thermal cat back back in july 03.

Yes it tapers down towards the catalytic. I had it removed though so now it's a full 3'.

Nice deep rumble but still quite tolerable on noise.

Thanks for clarifying that. I will go look up another exhaust. I am willing to modify the exhaust to make it fit, but not to cut it just to make it a full 3". Thanks for your input.
