This is a project I've been planning.. 2 door 2001 Mirage DE.. Still trying to find a good donor car.. the bad news is its EXPENSIVE since you need an entire drivetrain, which means you need a donor evo to get everything INCLUDING the wiring harness.. Once you have everything you need, swapping it over is fairly straightforward, but you will likely have to cut a good sized section out of the trunk pan and make a little room for other parts.
There's quite a bit of welding involved, and you will not get the rigidity of the evo chassis by any means... which means you may need to run a 4 or 6 point rollbar to stiffen the chassis.

I am currently doing this on a 93 Honda Civic Hatchback, and the types of modifications is no different, but unless you get everything you need, piecing it together over time is just going to end up being very expensive and frustrating. (I know, this first conversion is turning out to be a huge PITA)

Some of the local Philly guys might know if Nate Pharr completed the swap. I know he was planning on putting a 4G63 in his Mirage, although not sure if he wanted AWD. He didn't mention any major hurdles to completing it and I know he has the knowledge and experience to pull it off. (Drives the maroon VR4 Gallant that runs mid 11's).

You can all check out my car its a 2000 2 Door Mirage...its running FWD right now and i'm about to place the AWD in here in the next month...still waiting for a new fuel tank and to recieve my new wheels...honesltly for all you who are planning this swap...hope you have lots of funds and are planning of doing it yourself personally becuase its very inclusive and i'd gather that a shop would rip someone apart if asked to do it...also most shops would refuse to mess with the rear assembly for the sole factor that the car can become ruined if installed improperly... anyway i'm got nearly all the details about this swap but at this time i wont be sharing any untill i'm finnished...heres a few pics for those of you that havnt seen i'm sure...

if anyone wants to see anything else they can go to my pages....

Adam, great to see someone tackle that project. I had all the parts do make a 97 AWD a few months ago. but decided to sell the parts for profit cause it wouldn't out perform my 94 AWD coupe. The 93-96 coupes are 150 lbs lighter than the 97-2000 coupes. I think the early cars are prettier too, but that is just me. I built the 94 three years ago. The best time so far is high tens at 129 on 93 octane. That is with a VPC/GCC setup. The aem is set to go on the car in january. car weighs 2525 with full interior and a/c.

It looks like you didin't move the engine back. You dont have room for large frame turbos. I set the engine back almost 1 inch. The axles are not straight but is not a problem, its not enough stress on the joints.

Your going to love the car. Way funner than dsm cars and evo8s.

First a sedan front would look stupid on a 2d car. Not to menstion it would be ten times more work than moving the engine back an inch. You dont like the sound of the axles being offset an inch? The rear axles are the ones that take far more stress than the front. On a hard launch my rear axles are offset almost four inches. I have never broke an axle. And my car is 200hp more than your your 400hp plans. Just trying to be helpfull but obviously you don't need it.

I wanted to ask you if your not sour...what if any reinforcement you did to the rear end assembly in reguards to the frame rails...i know the 4th gen set up caters a fair ammount more to AWD then in a 5th gen but still did you just place any reinforments or anything or just run the factory rails and mounts...i allready have a idea as to what i'm going to do on mine but i'm just curious as to what worked sucesfully on yours...
