I suppose it could work.. Though if I had a choice I'd use a paddle operated sequential shifter..

BTW, has anyone told you that you've on insane?

Our tranny both the 5 speed and 6 speed operate on cables, so as long as the rachet mechanism operates in a mode that can actuate the cables in the right order, it will work.. have you looked at the new MR tranny and seen if it has three levers and cables instead of two? I have to assume it has two, with 4 levels of side motion instead of 3...

left up = 1
left down = 2
middle up = 3
middle down = 4
right up = 5
right down = Reverse

This is how the two cables operate on the 5 speed evo.. You can see how a rachet system can easily replicate those motions in a sequential manner.. with the reverse lockout being the first or last point on the sequence..

bad news.. The site lists it as a 5speed MT version.. not 6 speed..

Thanks a lot Jack for your help... and yes ive been told that im insane many times... but nothing beats looking at Joel's face(yellowfever) screaming loud as i go sideways up a mountain with my front bumper facing the wall initial d style...

however i am going to further my research in this product.... since it works by just pulling the cables maybe an extra one wont hurt... im going to contact the manufacturer straight and see how it goes...

the paddle shifter will be nice but im trying to keep the cost of a shifter under $6k

Whats interesting is I don't think that creating a rachet and clockspring mechanism should be all that difficult.. The speed at which the springs would engage the gears would mean that these sequential shifters work best with a dogbox that will engage correctly without a clutch.. but if you want instant shifting, thats your solution.. Not of much use to you and your new MR and sick 6 speed..

You would have an up-down motion that would ratchet forward, then snap back with a spring (1-2), so you would need two ratchet mechanisms, one with three detents that operates every two ratchets, and a second that ratchets once, then releases, and then a neutral detent which releases everything centered.. Plus it needs a pivot spring (like a stilletto switchblade) that will actuate forcefully in either direction.

I could design something pretty easily, but I don't know the effort would be worth it unless your running a dogbox setup that doesnt require clutching between shifts.

By the way, you might be able to find an pneumatic or electrically actuated setup easier.. Since you can place the actuators in series with the stock cable (therefore your stock shifter remains in place) and then can actuate with buttons on the steering wheel.. I've given this method alot of thought since its easier to create.. But you'd need small and strong push/pull actuators that act quickly..

Here's a bit more information.. Nobody recommends sequential shifting dogboxes for the street.. But you can get the parts to do it.. Its unlikely you'll be able to get a sequential shifter to work consistently on a synchro tranny simply because of how "Slow" it is to engage the gear mesh.. (Ever bang the gears fast? they just grind until the idler shaft and synchronizers mesh)

These guys also make a sequential shifter. They used to have an office on socal. Actually, if I remember right the RRE EVO has this shifter. There are pics of it somewhere on this board.
