Big Problems???

i was driving my evo a couple hours ago. i floored it in third gear and let off a 6500rpm's. a few minutes later my car feels very sluggish and has no power, but builds full boost the same. i pull over to check for a loose hose or something dripping from my car, but nothing was found. when i shift gears there is now a loud back fire. my egt's went over 1600F before setting off my defi alarm. i then coasted to a buddies house to park the car for the night. the motor idles fine but teh back firing is very noticable. just to let everyone know that i have 22223 miles on the car and i havn't changed the plugs i about 15000. so are my plugs fouled? or is the internal damage? if anyone could help me out please call me asap. thanks justin 661-978-4898

Yep check the plugs and see if you have any of them damaged. Doesn't sound good though. Could be several things.

1600 F is not too high. 900 C is about what you want to stay under. 900 C is 1652 F . My old DSM used to run about 800 C at highway cruising... Check the plugs first, I dont know why they would be bad, but that is a good place to start...

Good luck...

i took the plugs out and they were very white. im going to post pics asap. i also noticed my exhaust gas is very cold. im going to check the compression right now. i hope its nothing to serious. i didn't think 20psi and 10.xx-11.3 afr would cause internal problems.

Very white is lean. You should probably put a wide O2 back on your car after the air temp turned cold and do some testing. You could be maxing out injectors and or not have enough fuel supply. If the car still runs sluggish compression test would be good as you are already are doing. Good luck hope the test goes well.

my mods are on my sig. i already have a wideband. injectors are running 70% max. after i did my compression test (which was 140 in all four) i noticed that my utec map switcher was set on map 4 instead of my tuned map 3. im thinking my gf kicked thw switch last night while we were driving. i disconnected the battery and reset the ecu. and now everything is peachy.

Good deal, I hope that is what happened but don't know y it would backfire. Guess it could of gotten really rich due to the injectors and fuel pump. The compression test looks good but you should still get your AF ratio checked again if your plugs are white. Colder weather could of caused you to go a little bit lean in some spots. Just rather be safe than sorry.
