Drychargers?

I was just hanging around with some friends tonight and I wanted to check out my friends SRT-4, I looked under his hood and he had a cover over his K&N filter. I asked em what it was and he said its just a cover that goes over the intake to block small particles and whatnot, I came home and looked up some K&N stuff, they call them drychargers. I was just wondering if anyone has used this and made it fit the HKS RS filter or know of another type of drycharger that will fit.

^ That is what the drycharger looked like over his, I also found another website that sells different drychargers in different size's and whatnot but I wasn't very sure which would fit the RS filter. The drychargers are listed at the bottom of the page in the picture. I just figure that this would be a safer way to run an open element filter because this would help from little crap from being sucked into your engine.

isn't the point of an air filter to filter out little particles of crap so that it doesn't get in your engine? I'm guessing this device is to keep water out of the filter somehow. Seems like it would be restrictive though.

Their usually called prefilters.. I see them used alot on performance cars that see alot of dirt or dusty environments.. They work pretty well to trap larger particles like pollen and dust from dirt roads, that would otherwise gunk up an oiled filter.. I've used them on some of my cars, on others they were just impractical or not needed..

I have one for my K&N Typhoon, it looks like a little nylon jacket. It says dry charger on it, I always thought it was used in the cleaning / re-oiling process..., guess not... I just got a K&N recharge kit for my filter, does anyone know if they are universal or filter specific?

it's basically static charged nylong thingy ma giggy.

keeps cat hairs out of your engine bay and micro dirt etc...

You don't ever need it, I don't think but it''ll keep your filter cleaner longer...
