HKS rs, replace filter with k&n?

im looking to get the HKS rs intake system but it says you have to change the filter every 5000 miles, so after that 5000 miles, could i just replace it with the k&n filter. im looking to get a tune from Al for the hks rs, would this affect my tune? the reason for me wanting to get the k&n is because i wont have to feplace the filter anymore.

Every 5000 miles sucks, but thats the cost of an awesome intake like the HKS. I don't think the K&N cone filter fits on the HKS attachment...plus it will probably affect your tune too, especially if its for an HKS ECU. Don't fret, HKS filters are $30 or so, cheap compared to other upkeep costs.

The K&N filter is not compatible with the HKS RS INTAKE SYSTEM. The K&N is a panel filter that replaces the stock one...the HKS RS is an entire system that replaces the stock airbox.

Unless he's talking about a K&N cone filter, after seeing the hks foam quality, ill take the k&n over it. K&N makes a wide variety of sizes, so im sure you can find one that fits. OT what the hell is the dude talking about in post #2, never heard of an hks ecu???

I believe the cone filters come in the size you need
just measure the ID of the HKS RS Filter and then order the K&N cone filter
should be 3"

I was thinking of doing the same thing

I just got the KN Filter to fit on my RS Intake, Simpley used the attached for the KN on the Filter side of the Mass Air Flow. Problem solved. Noticed a differance over the Foam HKS filter too.

Hey, glad it fits, will have to take note of that. And sorry for being vague, I meant the HKS F-Con Pro piggyback ECU, and they can be kinda picky when you change parts without the appropriate tune.

I think it's it such a small difference you wont even notice. I had my car tuned with the HKS RS intake. I just switched it to the K&N Cone filter from there typhoon kit, (HKS intake Pipe + K&N MAF adapter with filter. Every thing seems just fine.
