400 Horsepower on Stock Turbo.

Ive been looking around and heard that this is possible but have some questions. What exactly would i need to make 400 WHP on the stock turbo? If not exactly, something close or something above. Money is currently no object, so list away.

If money is no object why would you even bother with a stock turbo?.. or are you just day dreaming?

Just day dreaming really, i think a stock turbo set up would be somewhat unique. The stock turbo is a solid unit and i was just interested to see what might be needed.

Let's just put this into a proper perspective by saying that one can spend more money on trying to get 400hp out of the stock turbo than he would by going to a larger turbo and getting at least another 50hp or more.

bigger turbo = (at least) upgraded clutch, bigger injectors, relatively higher octane gas (i mean, c'mon...), etc.

you'd have to do some math if $ is a factor.... and see whether maxing out the stock turbo (i'm not saying making 400 whp/crank hp, race gas, 91...whatever), is more feasible than going to a bigger turbo.

either way, $, risk, patience, headaches, and a whole lot of fun is involved

If $ is no object, send it to JUN ..they'll fix ya good

Thanks for all the replies, i was just trying to get a scope on what it would take and i might have to consider a new turbo. Who knows...

I don't think its a "Big Dollar" or "Reliability Buster" type of change needed to make that power, but very close attention to detail and choice mods.. Definitely some sort of ECU upgrade, either an EMS or reflash/piggyback and blowthrough MAF..

Some minor turbo upgrades.. It depends on what you consider a "Stock Turbo" also.. a 20G compressor wheel upgrade, Titanium turbine, 05 MR Compressor Cover, and TME 10.5 Turbine Housing..

Ported head, ported intake manifold, matched and ported throttlebody, 272 cams, header, O2 housing, lots of efficiency upgrades (Intercooler, pipes), Fuel pump and 680 injectors..

EMS with Speed density, or a reflash/piggyback with blowthrough MAF sensor eliminates the unpredictable and troublesome stock MAF sensor at 400whp

I missed a few things, but thats the key components.

A combo somewhat like that should net around 425whp or so depending on gas, tune, and dyno..

I think its possible but you prob have to run at least 100 octane or perhaps higher. However, I think you will hit peak 400whp fairly soon and the turbo will die out on higher rpm. If your car is a daily driver, 400whp is uselss. I would say anywhere between 300-350 is the ideal power and it can be easily done. Gluck.
