ACD Fluid

The manual states that use ATF SP III for the ACD fluid, is this the same as the auto-trans fluid? Thanks.

ACD doesn't use ATF .. AYC does .. the ACD pump uses ATF SP III .. but don't change that unless your ACD light comes on like a christmas tree or you hear funny noises ..

People will give you the bullsh*t about needing to bleed the ACD regularly .. don't listen to that .. it's like your brakes .. you don't bleed it unless you have problems .. or you change clutch

editted to add : Just be clear here .. ACD uses normal SAE gear oil , ACD pump uses ATF SP III (but like I mentioned no need to change unless...)

IS IT ?? Base on what ?? you'd think Mistubishi is stupid enough to make 2 difference types of ACD just to make sure the USDM evos are the lowest of all the grades ?????

there are two different types.u look at the current JDm/euro evo 8 or MR,or even the 7.there is no resivour in the engine bay for the ACD.the acd runs its normal gear fluid self contained in the tranfercase.only resivour in the car that uses ATF SP III is its AYC in back.

don't confuse the issue here .. the guy asked ACD .. not AYC .. THERE IS NO RESERVOIR FOR THE ACD .. but the ACD pump runs on ATF SP III

ok .. make it clear .. there's 2 PUMPS on board .. for ACD / SAYC cars .. there's only 1 PUMP if it's ACD only .. and this is also a possible config in JDM cars ( ACD and rear LSD diff .. mostly in RS models)

Sigh .. why argue .. you guys got the tech manuals online .. just check it out ..

The reason why I'm asking because my ACD reservoir level is at the low level, I'm planning to top-off to the max level. I better check the level it again. Thanks for the info.

My '05 MR has an ACD reservoir, it is located in place of the intercooler water spray resevoir found on the '03-'04 USDM Evo's.

Bumping this discussion back up from the dead...

I have a similar "low" level in the ACD reservoir on my Evo IX. The cap says ATF SP III which is automatic trans fluid.

But, if I change the transfer case oil (from below) it will be Diaqueen/Redline/Amsoil 90w.

Am I correct?
