Cone filter with Stock Air Scoop

I have a K & N Cone filter on my evo and was wondering if the stock air scoop really helps with this? I was using it but I broke the pins that connect it to the car lastnight. Is it a waste to have it there all it does is kinda direct air to the filter.....

Anything helps, it will just shoot more air towards the filter. The pins for mine also broke so I just zip tied it down.

Does anyone make a cone filter that fits in the factory box that can be shut/sealed off like the factory filter or can the k&n filter be used like that????

Nope! There is no room in the factory filter box for it, and the MAF adapters will not even work with teh box attached, regardless of the size of the cone filter.

HKS Kansai filter box with HKS RS intake is the closest thing to what you want.

I have a cone filter installed and I just have the stock air scoop pointing towards it. But since lastnight I broke the 1 pin that holds it down and the other fell into the never ending pit called the undertray. Is there any point to even have the thing in there?

IMHO, it's not important at all. When the car is moving, the fresh air flow in the engine compartment no matter what. I actually think it helps hot air flow out easier without teh scoop on the way. I know it by data logging my Autronic charge air temperature.

But if you want, you can always go back to teh dealer and buy those plastic screws.

I have the k&n cone filter. as like u guys broke the lame *** pins so dont use anymore. Although when it was on I was wodering how much air really flows in there. If u look where the scoop is it looks like the hood sits flush with the edge. So whatever air gets in in there cant be much. I read about somone driving in the rain, scooped up water in the scoop and hydrolocked his engine. I think the best way for getting fresh air in there is to have the scoop on the hood that dumps on top of the intake.

it lowers your downforce and drag coefficiency, that tray. Also, it gives fresh air to your brakes to cool it.

also it keeps the water out of the engine bay.

if you do use cone filter, make sure you tune it. Otherwise you'll loose HP from lean spots in your a/f mix.

And yes, the ram air scoop works great.

I have a custom Dynoflash. plokivos I do not think we are talking about the same air scoop? This scoop is the one that goes directly to the stock air box. So there is no brake cooling or downforce... I'm not talking about the undertray. I'm talking about the scoop that goes to the stock air box. But does the ram air scoop work great with a cone filter? In theory it is no longer "ramming" air anywhere. LOL

Have you datalogged air intake temperatures when your car is idling? What about when the radiatior fan kicks on? In hot weather conditions, this makes a huge difference in AIT.

Yes I did. It gets quit hot at idle, but temperature drops quickly once the car is moving, and it is even cooler at boost... I guess the stock intercooler is very efficient with stock turbo.

Back to the topic, I really don't think the scoop is making any difference with open element filter.

Where are you measuring the air intake temperatures? At the MAF or at the throttle body?

For 1 it looks funny to have a scoop running to nothing, second the pins broke and keep breaking, and 3rd to gain access to my DV/ boost controller solenoid I have to take the damn pins out and I always break them. I'm sick of the thing! LOL
