torn between HKS EVC V & Blitz SBC-ID3
It's just one of those decision where in the end you always come up a winner, kinda like AMD vs. Intel, Nvidia vs. ATI, Ford vs. Chevy... you always have your ups and downs!
As of ebc vs mbc some drivers like to be able to set low and high boost with the click of a button!

Yeah because having the ability to adjust your spool up separately to your actual boost levels is total bs
The HKS EVC V is a wonderful unit I would recommend to anyone. I have used several mbc's including a Hallman and I had problems with them all... Please don't take this as an attack on those with mbc's, just giving my honest experience, which seems to get me nowhere most of the time

Hi guys, sorry to bring up such an old post, but this may help those looking for one in the future.
I happened to have owned both the HKS EVC 5 and Blitz SBC-id Spec R.
Now for the HKS EVC 5 its a really great unit and you get to program 2 settings (Setting A and Setting B), which people normally set one as low boost and another as high boost setting (personally I think 2 setting is enough for most people), however the biggest difference on the HKS is the response (spooling up response gain) which is not as easy to use as the blitz unit and normally people set it to auto and some dont even touch it, then the second biggest difference is the boost scramble, the HKS scramble are like the one on Greddy profec B which requires driver to manually activate it (like Greedy profec B you can purchase a extra switch that installs on your steering wheel).
For the Blitz SBC-id, you will need to make sure you buy the spec R model only! as the Spec S model comes with a small solenoid that can only holds boost up to 20psi or a very little more, which for most EVO owners especially the one with later models (EVO 7 onwards) we tends to go up to 22psi at least and the Spec S is certainly not an option. spec R solenoid is the go for Blitz. Blitz boost controller in my opinion is a lot more user friendly compares with HKS EVC 5 when user trying to change their settings. Blitz offers 4 boost settings for user to program (Set 1 / Set 2 / Set 3 / Set 4) but be aware that the 4th setting is the boost scramble setting, the boost scramble mode in Blitz is different to most EBC on the market in my opinion, its either turned on or turned off by user, and it activates it self automatically when its turned on by user. The boost scramble function on Blitz activates when you step your throttle paddle deep, may be about 50~75% down or more then it activates it self and switch to your 4th setting. For the boost scramble mode in Blitz you can set the kick in time duration, which I set it between 3~5 seconds depends on what I am doing at the time, I run my EVO 7 at 22.5psi max and prefer it not to hold 22.5 psi all the way to red line just to be safe, so I set my setting 3 at 18psi and scramble kicks in at 3500 rpm with higher gain (spool up response) which you will notice the difference when it kicks in and when reaching red line it drops back down to 18psi. You can switch to different boost setting any time from set 1 to set 4 but also with a factory setting ( off mode) and another mode say "MAP" (which I have no idea what is it for). and Blitz allows user to adjust the boost spooling up response ( the "Gain" value) manually in each setting, however on the users manual it states clearly for cars with factory internal wastegate, do not exceeds the gain value by ?? (I forgot the exactly value but I think it's either 10 or 15. And when set at 0 it's factory response) otherwise you may cause boost spike when pushing the turbo response too high. The gain setting on the Blitz can also be set as Auto mode, however in the users manual it states clearly that the auto mode is for vehicles with small turbos that runs on low boost only, I did try it in auto mode on my EVO 7 and it certainly does not run nicely (feels kinda sluggish and slower then set in manual mode).
In my opinion, the blitz is more for people who like more control and easier user friendly interface. But after all it is all up to people's own preference! They both are great EBC unit for sure.
Oh also there's another function I really like with the HKS and really wish the Blitz to have it too! which is the password protection ! As a friend of mine who runs the same blitz as mine that went to a work shop once for service, the kid that works in there took his car out for test drive and played around on his EBC and turned the boost all the way up which pissed him off so bad. But for people who works on their own cars this shouldn't be an issue I guess, but you just never know, I work on my own car all the time but I still have to let the tyre shop to do wheel alignment for me and they do have to test drive my car after the alignment to make sure things are ok so I guess sometimes it's just tough luck too.
