I also get ticking on cold morning start ups and for some reason, happens more often when the oil is dirty.

I was just going to say that. I noticed for like the first couple hundred miles after an oil change the tick goes away completely.

I think it's the hydraulic lift adjusters. When I did my head swap most of the adjusters had lost their oil, and when I got the car started the first time it was LOUD! I let it idle and after a couple minutes I revved it to about 2K and let it sit there. That must have got the oil flowing and the adjusters sucked it right up- I hardly notice any clicking (which is an improvement over pre-headswap).
The injectors do click, but I've only noticed it when I've had issues with the engine turning over... you can hear them firing, but it's a lot faster and not as loud as bad adjuster click....

my $0.02

My car started to after the cam install. It's normal. I can only hear it if it's cold out and I'm standing outside my car.

The famous 4g63 lifter tick. Don't you love it... It would not be a 4g63 with out it.

Could be worse ...

MAN THIS SUCKS!!! I had lifter tick on my 95 3000gt SL AND on my 96 3000gt VR-4!

I had hoped that mitsu would have addressed this issue. I don't have any lifter tick...yet.

It is an annoying problem, especially since I warm my car up in public places all the time.
