im also deciding to go back to stock airbox so they cant say **** anymore when they pop open my hod, as well as possibly go back to stock muffler. my question is, how would i go about still using my helix downpipe, cat delete, and stock muffler? im thinking about having Works do the stealth muffler for me, but do i need a new axle back to weld onto the muffler? how much would it hurt to go from 3 inch downpipe, cat delete, to stock axle back?

your exhaust is fine (anything after the cat). definately put your cat back on, that could cost you thousands in fines. hide your safc and put your stock intake box back on. maybe downpipe too. if he fails you because of anything else you get 1 more chance to come back for free, and he makes a list of what didn't pass.

First of all, why do have to call the dude a pig? Maybe you deserve the cite...anyone who modifies their car in California knows you could get nabbed for the mods. You got busted for something you did that you knew you could busted for. I'm not saying its fair, but unfortunately, that is the **** we have to deal with out here.

Anyway, you better switch in your orginal downpipe and cat, you might be ok with a cat back. The afc should be hidden. The stock cam gears would be a good move. Try to get your car as close to stock looking as you can. I guess I have made the decision that the intakes are not even worth the trouble in CA. Hopefully other can give you an idea what the ref does, if they hardcore check your car out it could get ugly.

Good luck.

Ya, I wouldn't blame the cop neither cause you have a test pipe on. He can prob smell your car from a mile away. Just be glad he didn't cite you driving without a cat. Your car could have be impounded plus a fat fine.

You got to keep it stealth looking if you're going to do any mods in California! I have my stock air box with a K & N panel filter and a U/R hi-flo cat which flows great and looks fairly stock. I passed smog with HKS 264 cams on my 94 Talon Tsi, so you might luck out on that one. The 264's still have a smooth idle which will help you deceive the referee. If you live in California you can't expect to get away with mods like the other states do. I know its a hassle, but you've learned a lesson and now it's time to keep a low profile.

wow i cant believe you guys are even backing up the police cuz i called them a pig. you guys must have not ever gotten pulled over before to know how much of a dick cops are. first of all, i was at the runs in oakland and the cops pulled over about 30 cars by blocking the exit. i know what the consquences are for modding a car and im willing to pay for it. thats y im asking for youre guys's advice. dont talk to me telling me i deserve to get the cite, like im not already pissed off for getting caught.

Some cops are pigs like you say. They just want to screw you around. Cat delet is bad for the enviorment but they are just too hard on us imports. Our cars produce less emission than these SUVs and V8s but we always get the crap. Our exhaust makes noise so does the harlys. The point is these cops just want to pick on us imports. For example my frind has a mustang cobra with a loud exhaust and lots of modifications and past an inspection point, but me in my evo with a cat back exhaust got the full search like we have drugs or somthing.

anyway my suggestion is any aftermarket parts on your car should have a carb # or
the punk ref would not pass it. Sorry but thats the freaking Cali rules. Until Law makers drive more imports we have to live by the rules.

You should make your car look as stock as possible. I had to go through the referee once, and it was a pain. They checked for everything including stuff like boost controller and S-AFC. They didn't check my glove box though, so I think you might be able to just hide your AFC there. Definitely take your cam gears out.
Also, prepare for a $341 fine, which you might be able to fight in court.

Thumbs down

WTF!!! What kind of country do we live in when an American can't put an intake on his car without getting a fine!?!?! More importantly F*** California and the lawmakers you guys have. I am glad I don't live there, my neighbor is a Sheriffs officer and he works on my car with me, suck to be you guys. That's what you guys get for voting for Arnold, LOL !!
