use @ least 93 octane gas. a gallon of toluene costs about 9 bucks, and mix w/ a little marvel mystery oil......., you'd be surprised how much fster the car is on 93 instead of 91 or 92 octane.

i removed my air box completely then strapped a screen over my mass air sensor. a ripped t-shirt works well here. you can hold it on with zipties.
also, drop your exhaust from the dp back. take the exhaust and cat to a local pipe bender and have him press bend you a pipe. then go to pepboys to buy a tip and universal hangers. that will be about $80. cut the flange off your stock exhaust and weld it on the pipe. your car will sound mean, thats what i have on my car right now. then spend $90 on an mbc and then $80 on a fuel pump. you've now spent $250 and have gained quite a bit of hp. save some money, and get a custom flash with al and you'll have almost 300whp for less than $500

yup. 13.887 @ 118mph. on a cold october night in Portland, Or (PIR)
almost puckered up the leather off my seat when i pulled up to get my time slip.
that night was nuts.

but still. id like my Evo to be able to put my "legend" to rest. with out Nos. and funds are hard enough to come across.. the damn recaro clhild seat costed almost $450 alone. but, if im perched into a recaro, my special little daughter deserves the same!

so... i took apart my stock intake setup last night, and fount a small hole in the side of my factory airbox... beneath the filter, about the size of a large blueberry (no clue how it got there)... so needless to say. duct tape was the answer there.
i tightened down all of my fittings for the entire intake portion and found a few hoses which perked my interest...

1.) on most other vehicles there are hoses that run from the valve cover to the intake hose... the Evos has a hose that runs from there... but couldnt find if it went into the intake or not....

2.) there is another hose that connects the top of the intake manifold to the section a few inches before the turbine... you would think that the turbine has greater suction power than the intake manifold.. is this hose hindering anything? i know car manufacturers run all kinds of things this way so they can keep the emissions WAY under what it needs to be. (with out most of the hoses the cars could still pass California emissions i have found on other cars)

3.) factory heat shields dont weigh much, but the removal of them in specific areas, could it help? i took the inner cover for the hood vent out, leaving the wire one there, and removed the exhaust manifold heat shield. after driving the car for about 15 mins, i parked and noticed TONS of hot air excaping from the hood. i think that may keep the engine bay a bit cooler along with the Royal purple "Purple Ice" radiator fluid additive i dumped into it ^^

i guess i'll hafta search Ebay for good deals on parts the homeless can afford... even though with past cars i would only buy the best... (mugen, toda, spoon. ect...)

if anyone comes across anything new. plz let me know! thanx

i miss my ole h22a.

no thrill like it. although you're going slow, it feels like you're going faster. lol.

Free mods.

you could clear out your cat.

you could take off your exhaust and get a straight pipe put in (cheap $30 or so at midas)

You could take the whole air filter out. (it's a hp, but wouldn't recommend it, unless you're just gonna do it for a bit. Do this on drag days).

You could take your passenger seat out

You could take the spare tire out (i've had mine out for a while).

You could shift faster (this is really a driving thing more than anything for going faster)

You could take the IC sprayer container out/ take windshield wiper fluids out (weigh saving)

Buy a cheap down pipe on ebay ($150 and you get a high flow cat too, no name or megan racing)

I'm sure there are more ways.

thanks Plokivos. thats the kind of info i needed to hear. what i'll eventually do is pile up all the free mod info i get here and make one big post about it. for all the ppl like me who wont soon be able to afford the blitz, hks, cusco, tien and other expensive parts.
i'll prolly do the removal of my cat, since there are no manditory CARB or emissions testing outside of portland oregon. hmm... hope a local muffler shop will do it tho. most wont want the liability issues.

lol! for any 4 cylender that wheezes out 190 hp stock. (157 whp.) that isnt bad at all...
and when you can do about 5 or 6 simple mods that add 2-3 hp each for free.... that free 20hp looks better than lindsay lohan on fmeale viagra.... almost.

actually... i just dont want to run into having some minor factory defect set off some freak unknown issue and take it to mitsu and them tell me im screwed...
today i removed the front bumper cover and noticed that on the right AND left lower air ducts, there is some restricting plastic peices hindering airflow to the driver side ( i think its the intercooler spray tank ...) and there is also on the passenger side the air guide that leads to the oil cooler. and a big hole in that guide that makes room for the IC piping. i used alot of electric and duct tape to seal off the hole and re-direct more air to the oil cooler (cooler engine[oil] = better performance) that and using an old 0' guage car audio cable for a engine block ground (mainly for looks... and it looks kinda rad! a big ol' silver 0 guage wire from the block to the negative battery post)

drove it around for about 10 mins, but didnt notice anything new...

That hose that you speak about that comes out of the valve cover goes into the intake tract between the stock airbox and the turbocharger. The flow of air into the turbocharger forces crankcase fumes out through the hose and back into the intake tract. This helps keep crankcase pressure from building up and also to recirculate unburnt blowby back through the combustion process.
