haven't done this one myself but looks good in theory, I would probably use some teflon tape or silicone to seal around the screws so you don't create vacuum leaks https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=101867

nice! this does sound interesting! but, as far as BOVs go, ive been told that a JDM EVO MR BOV is made from metal, and not plastic... less leaks, and will hold upwards of 26-27psi... not that id need to go that high, but still.. any thoughts?

lighten your car by removing your donut, just carry a slime tire fix & you'll save more than 30lbs, buy a used WORKS muffler delete for about $30-$50 and shave off another 30lbs, remove sound proofing materials off of the car and save another 100 plus lbs, something radical but shave off another 90 to 100 lbs....cut off metal beams insde your doors (x4).....and finally reduce your own body wt. and be healthy.... will also add a few more advantage towards your wt. to power ratio at a very minimal cost.

good call, but i have a 3 y/o... and she is way more important than 100lbs of weight. a muffler delete sounds like fun, except the headache from all the noise my car will be making. i do appreciate the help, but all that wouldnt exactly be free. (remove dounut and soundproofing excluded) what im looking for are "simple garage mods" and "free" things you can do your evos. my goal is to make a big post about it.

$9/gal for Toluene damn you are getting ripped off. I get 5 gallon cans of it for $30 so that's ~$6/gal.

Enjoy the car.. I honestly wish my car was still stock, I dont really regret modifying it, but I have come to appreciate the stock car more now that it is modified.
Amen to this.

you can always punch the cat since it is a bolt on for our car
Old trick in my mustang was to run a light weight oil like a 0W-20 or a pure 0weight oil. By running that plus about .5qt low I dyno'd the car with 7more whp. Less restrictions on the motor. Pull the ac off, power steering too. There is a black metal beam that runs across the front of the car. Its your bumper. Take of the front plastic piece and the underbody diffuser and you can unbolt that. That with brackets is about 50lbs right there. Just don't rearend anybody after that

Angry

ok, im not sure if ppl are understanding me on this...
how about i put this title in next time.. "FREE AND SAFE MODS" did you read the fact that i have a 3 y/o? also these cars REQUIRE synthetic oil. have you ever went from synth oil to reg oil? did you have to pay the bill when your motor siezed? i understand running a lightweight oil, thats why i have already put in royal purple 5w30.

seriously. cut off inner door safty beams? remove front steel bumper beam? WTF has anyone ever been in a bad car accident? i'd like to be alive the next time i go and buy a second mitsu EVO. instead of destroying a factory cat (costs $630 from mitsu)$25 from midas, id get them to make me a race pipe. i called them and they said they'd make on, but not install it for liability reasons.
its called comon sense. for the 30k i spent on this car, im not treating it like a honda

well you asked for free and that's what you got keep in mind evetually everything will end up costing you.

edit: ooh ooh, I got one, seriously though, the coolant lines that run to your throttle body, bypass those, pretty sure they are just there for really cold start up and could safely be bypassed if you aren't in too terribly an extreme climate.

Here...

1.) gut out the trunk... spare and jack... keep fix'it in a can there instead... >30lbs

2.) unbolt the rear muffler section... little less restriction, saves some weight...

3.) if you can deal with it... unbolt at the dp... then, but a $15 hessian curved/slate tip to direct most of the exhaust down to the pavement which will save you from direct fumes and heating up the floors... will get a cel though...

4.) go get a test pipe made... just long enough with a bung to reach the back O2 sensor... most MOST shops charge $20-30 (around here at least)... then, buy the "Help" anti-foul spark plug spacers ($4) and do the mechanical anti-cel trick... then, put that hessian tip said above on to save yourself from the heat/part of the smell... all in all... should run $50... and you have an open dp with cat delete... PLUS, removed a hunk of weight...

that's about 40-50lbs saved plus a nice boost in hp with the open dp... it'll give you a nice nice boost in speed... it's about as much free hp as you'll get with this car... and it's not removing any safety equipment which will prevent harm to your daughter (don't blame you, she should be more important than saving 50lbs) and won't cause any harm to the motor... stay off the throttle around the fuzz and when you're not in a hurry to save any headaches... physically and financially... best of all... any warranty repairs, just bolt up the old stuff and you're free as a bird
...all for $50... what you paid for that filter most likely... and how is $50 free??? called, "donating sperm"...

on a side note...I do know that some Supra owners would pick up 20whp with a twist from a screwdriver... disconnecting the wastegate... but i would never try that... very unsafe i think...

Chris...

well that does help, i will loose the spare and jack, and see about the spark plug thing. ive never fiddled around with iridiums (stock) but i cant remove any piping. too loud and i dont want to attract too much attention. i'll prolly get a boost controller off of ebay (not a $5 piece, but a decent unit. maybe turboXS for about 20-30, and if i can find a cheap boost guage. im kinda pissed that my blitz DTT shows boost preasure only in bar. and im not yet sure how to read that. im more familiar with psi like the rest of the world.

You should never have bought the car. Seems simple enough. If you can't afford $50 on your car how do you get the oil changed? How do you buy your daughter food? Come on man. I see too many people now a days that drive used Evo's because they couldn't afford a new one (Which is fine.. why not right?) But then even most of them and half of the kids driving new ones can't afford them anyways. You should have kept your junker honda or get a new junker to cruise around. Buy a mid-life crisis car when you can actually afford it. Thats my idea at least. Live within your means man.
