Actually, for me, the reason is the larger motor... mod for mod the STi will be faster.
That is incorrect. There is no replacement for displacement, if and only if, all else remains equal; There are too many variables in this situation. Would you care to explain why the 2.6 ltr RB26DETT can make more power, dollar for dollar (or yen for yen, if you would), than a 3.0ltr Mitsu GTO motor?
I'm a drag racer, not an auto-xer, so that is why I want the "stroker" motor.
Do you even know what a, "stroker", motor is (i.e. increased displacement as a result of the rod-ratio being altered with a longer stroke and thus, increased mid-range torque as a result of a longer, more forceful thrust)?
If you are indeed a drag racer, you are looking at the wrong car buddy.
Cheers.

I have run on the track with many WRXs, STis and RAs. Except for one (which has a really good driver and significant mods) they usually cannot keep-up. I have also seen a number (at least 3) blow their engines.
Scoobies are nice, but the engines are not strong and they don't take modification well (that's why they are going to the 2.5l engine). However, they are more comfortable cars and much cheaper to run.

as heated as this STi vs. EVO8 discussion is getting we are gonna have some fun at the track and on the streets this year. I just can't wait to race some good old fashioned American sports cars and and smoke them like a blunt. I know quite a few **** talking muscle car owners around my neighborhood who are in for an **** whooping. and after stomping them in the 1/4 busting a 180 drift and getting back to the starting line before they even find a place to turn around.

Running 22-23psi on 91 octane with knock and bad timing would not yield you more hp than running it on 19 - 20 psi with more timing and smooth timing curve... It can get even worse on hot summer days... I wish the car was runing around 16-17 psi stock and making the claimed 270ish horsepower...

Some cars respond better to boost etc... look at the diffrence in displacement from an RB turbo series engine to a 2jzgte. Or an Ls1 to a "mod motor" stang... allthough the Ls1 starts with much more dissplacment, and horsepower... once you get into power-adder modifications, the LS1 hasnt produced the numbers that the 4.6's have...
