GM Synchromesh Question
Don't know if this is Midwest only based, but I never found it at Autozone. I did, however, have luck at O'Reilly's. They seem to always have it on hand so if you live near one, check them out.
You know, just because a transmission oil makes your transmission shift well does not mean that it is also protecting your gears and bearings.
There is a balance you have to strike between a slippery lubricant (good for the gears) and one with a lot of friction (good for the synchros). And none of the lubricants mentioned in this thread are the slippery variety.
Trying to find the cheapest possible fluid that makes your transmission shift well just doesn't do your gears any favors. You guys are taking more of a gamble than I would with such a nice transmission.

Well, I'm using Neo in my Eclipse's transmission with a bottle of BG to help with shifting. The Neo alone was horrible for shifting. But with 1 quart of BG in it, it seems to be ok.
But the Evo's transmission is very different. I'd give John Shepherd an email and see what he suggests.

I'm not saying that synchromesh is different from the GM stuff. I'm sure it is the same. I just think they both suck.
Sure, Mitsu once used it on a completely different transmission. What makes you think they would recommend it for an Evo transmission?
I'm not saying that you should search out the most expensive fluid that you can. Though the $70 a gallon stuff I am using now is probably pretty close to as expensive as you can get. I'm saying that you should find a fluid that is slippery to protect your gears and bearings. BG, GM, and the Pennzoil stuff are all great for shifting, but they have too much friction additive for gear protection. Even the hardcore DSM racers don't recommend using straight BG anymore.

I guess I will send in a used sample of the Syncromesh and OE fluid for wear analysis... I won't argue that there are not a wealth of fluids that may protect better than the Syncromesh (because there are), but I am very suspicious of it being a "bad fluid". There are "noted" Evo tranny builders touting that the OE fluid must be used, so I will use "stock" as a base line.

I suspect that has more to do with the transfer case than the transmission itself.
Looking for a substitute for all stock fluids in my evo 9 mr but it has the sheps 5 speed swap... what i am wondering is if this stuff is worth it i am extremely nervous to purchase this but in a way i would rather do this seeing as how my mitsu dealer wants $634 for my fluids... do u guys have any ideas on what i could use im talking about everything from the tranny radiator acd rear end all the way up to the brake fluid... i have champagne taste but i only have a beer budget... did i mention im in mississippi most dealers dont even have this car in their database PLEASE HELP!i!
