Crank walk is an issue with any 7 bolt turbo 4G63 from the years 1994 1/2-1999. It happened in my 96 eclipse. I had MAJOR issues with the dealer in trying to get this repaired. I had a 2.5in downpipe with 3 inch cat-back and the warranty dept. tried to say the exhaust put extra strain on the motor causeing it to blow. Yeah right, way to go mitsubishi for standing behind your products.

Swap in a 6 bolt from an earlier year and you will have no issues.

It seems as though the clutch is the key to Crankwalk, but some people will beg to differ. If you put in a more aggressive clutch, you have increased your chances of crank walk. Others will dispute this and blame mitsubishi for not makeing the crank to spec. Some have said the crank can be as little as 1/1000 mm off and eventually over time wear and start the walking effect that you see. I had the oppurtunity to see what the mitsubishi mechanic was saying and it all made sense. This was his personal opinion and he said NOT to mention one word of what he was telling me to my service advisor. He mentioned he had repaired MANY turbo eclipse engine's with this same problem. Mitsubishi turned their head on this problem and tried to find ways of blameing the driver or mods associated with the car. The problem was it was happening on stock NON MODIFIED cars too, and not just the modified cars.

It looks like years of treating their customers like crap, not fixing problems, and blameing the customer has come back to bite them in the A$$.

My car was at the dealer for almost 8 months of the first year I owned it with the longest time being a 3 1/2 month time frame. I kept haveing to bring it back for problem after problem after problem. I ended up haveing close to $17,000 of warranty work done on the car in a 2 year period. Not to mention I was out of pocket with some of the rental car money(over $600). The warranty will only cover car rental for a certain amount of days, anything over that is your responsibility. I asked for a loaner car when my warranty car rental ran out and they just laughed at me. Yes they literally laughed at me. Says alot for the people they have working for them. I was told by the Service Manager that they no longer wanted to work on my car and I had to take it to another dealership if I needed any further repairs to be made. Up yours mitsubishi and the people who work for you. Sorry for the rant.
