Are some cams knockier than others?

I have heard that some people have had issues with some cams being very prone to knock. Some people say their cams are knocky.

For the ones that have have this issues was it really the cams? Or was it something else like installation, lifters, etc?

Do you mean real knock or false knock?

I guess any of the two. Knock that pulls timing in general.

In terms of false knock, it's thought that sometimes valvetrain noise, like lifter tap, etc might contribute to false knock. In this case, a cam with high lift and a steep ramp rate might trigger false knock more than another more mild cam. But there is no evidence to support this, and it is uncommon I believe.

In terms of real knock, yes a cam will effect the VE of the motor, which will effect fueling and probably to a lesser degree timing. So yes you might change a cam and then knock. But to answer your question, nobody talks about cams in terms of their ability to resist or create knock. The cam's job is to move the valves in a motion which allows the most air to be ingested, independant of knock/timing.
